Default System Advice

Hey guys. I'll be the first to admit I am a newbie in the motorcycle audio world but I'm just looking for some guidance on cheaper setup I plan on doing to my 2008 Ultra. I have a degree in audio engineer but all my experience is in recording studio's and systems in Performing arts centers. I'm looking at a Sony MEX-72BT head unit, the Stinger 700 amp, and Polk Audio mm652 in the fairing and tour pak pods. I understand that SPL is important when discussing audio of this type but I'm looking more for SQ without spending $2000. If anyone has any tips or tricks to offer it's appreciated.

Ditch the polks and add 2 pair of Mmats 601.cx and Vtwin adapters.

Fireball, thanks for the reply. I've seen a lot of people running Mmats on here and they have fairly similar specs, save some frequency response deviations, but the mmats are much cheaper. Thanks for the options.

I would agree with Jack on The MMats but would also add to switch from the Sony MEX-72BT head unit to a Sony MEX-M100 BT.

There are other choices out there, but the Mmats 601.cx are just a great bang for the buck speaker. Great sounding speaker with plenty of volume. Dont forget the VTwin speaker adapters for the rear pods if you go with the Mmats 601.cx. You'll need them to fit the Mmats in there. I believe you'll also need 6.5"speaker adapters for the fairing as well. The Stinger 700 pairs well with the Mmats and will fit fine right on top of which ever HU you go with. The Sony Marine HUs are all a good choice. Don't forget to factor in an amp wiring kit, an adapter plate for the Head Unit and a handlebar controls module.
