Lots of great points. I’m not going to think about competition. I’m going to go to more of them, because I enjoyed it, and what I learn will help me make mine even better for me, and if someday it seems like it might do okay in a competition maybe I’ll enter one. But since the sound competition lifestyle is not what I’m after I’ll shift my thinking as Haze and others have suggested.

Back in the day I used to partake in local car audio competitions in a very amateur class at our local audio shop in town, and a couple nearby towns, it was fun.I started by going to a few just to learn how to make my system better,
and the shops hosted them to introduce you to there latest and greatest product, and sell you there newest equipment, frequently holding install seminars, they were happy to help whether small project or competition level.... there was"always" someone to help you get the best from your new amp or speakers or...whatever,...and mostly they were very knowledgeable, as they were usually installers and competed at a more serious level in national comps.

Seems like those days are gone, with the exception of a few people on this forum, information is hard to find, and the shops that do exist wont tell you anything to help you make a good choice on what would work best, general attitude seems to be if you didn't bring thousands of dollars with you, you shouldn't even try... unlike then when they used to be glad to help you start out small,.. and if the bug hits.... I sure miss the old days,
I think a few more show "local" and shines and bike audio comps, maybe cruise nites,... would be fun so we could show off all of are hard work. some of you around milwaukee might remember cruisin with Q, and the car audio comp at summerfest
I would love to see more events around bikes and bike audio, with local comps for us guys that dont have thousands to spend on our systems.

The internet killed that. Many many moons ago, word of mouth was the best form of marketing.....today it's social medial. With word of mouth you had to find ways to reach customers and display your talents. These days you can be anyone you want to be on the internet. I can't tell the amount of free advice, knowledge, etc. that I've shared that someone with much less knowledge has then gone on to charge someone for it. It gets old when others profit from your hard work so you won't find many shop owners that will share freely in the internet age.

The major shows are adjusting and smaller classes have been made for folks that don't have over the top set-ups. Generally speaking the audio comps and major ralleys turn out to be good times.

I've decided to stick with a riders bike because I need storage for long trips. That alone limits my ability to build an extreme, competitive system. I run an 8 speaker system cruising down the road, set up for my pleasure.
I rolled into Sturgis last summer, popped off my tour pack, and went about riding through the hills and having a great time. As luck would have it, I rolled into the Beaver Bar 5 minutes before the Sound Warz competition. Figured why not, and signed up into the Street Beater Class. Got my *** kicked, had a ton of fun, met some great people, and learned a lot.
Would I do it again, in a heart beat. I walked away with some knowledge, decided to make some minor changes to make my current system sound better rather than a complete re-vamp. Will it win this time, probably not, but I'll still give it another run next time I'm in Sturgis. I'll make a few changes and try to make this the best sounding system I can with what I have.
I'll probably never progress past the Street Beater Class, and I'll probably never win, but I'll still keep having fun riding, rocking, and dropping into the odd competition when they show up within riding distance for us crazy Canadians.
