So I recently bought a fairing from another user on here for my Fat Boy. It currently has 4x PolkAudio DB521 5.25in speakers 45w rms, a Sony DSX-M50BT head unit 55w and an Alpine KTP-445U 45w RMS x4 amp. I plan on swapping out the DB-521 for the newer DB-522 which is the newer version and are rated for 100w rms peak. I pretty much know **** all about sound systems Ive always just had a shop handle everything for me. Would the current head unit and amp be sufficient to power the 100w DB-522 or would I be better off replacing other components as well. Im looking for loud. Between hearing loss from the Army and how loud my pipes are I need loud lol.
Most of us run 6.5" so I'm not sure what else might be out there for 5.25" speaker options. Hopefully the DBs get the job done. Too bad Mmats don't make a 5.25" that would sure help you out in the volume department.
You will definitely want more amp. I've tried out a few of the 50x4, 75x4 sized amps, and although they are better than no amp, I found 100 watts to be about the size you need to really get the benefits of the uogrades.
The Stinger 700 would be a great amp choice if it fits.
ill be curious to hear how much room is in those fairings because I was considering putting a batwing on my Softail.
