Hi folks,
Setup, 2014 Boom 6.5, BT355, Stinger, MMATS, Fairing only, Bass and treble centered.
Using a scope i can run the volume up to full using a 1k test tone and get 0 clipping, this is measured at the BT355 RCA's
Plug in Stinger, Frequency set around 10 o'clock, measuring either of the Front outputs can only get to around 17.4 volts before the clipping starts, this is with bike running.
Volume is "good", not "great" but audio quality is very hollow, not sure that's the right word to describe it, but it's just not "full" feeling.
One thing to note is I did buy the BT355's used off the forums, unsure if the previous owner messed with the dials but they are the model that only has the dials on the opposite ends of the RCA's, 2 dials only, not the 4 dials. The 2 dials are set identically, around the 1 o'clock position.
Thoughts on how to get a fuller sound? I did try to bring gains up to 22.4 volts 125x4 sq root, but that just seemed to add a ton of clipping and distortion.
Good rule of thumb for the Boom HU is to not go over 15 on the volume when setting gains probably even better 13 or 14 regardless of how the clean the signal looks on a O-scope or DD1. Also set the gains without the HP filter on. For the sound quality once you are able to get a clean signal coming out of the amp try running it in all pass with just the line levelers and see how that sounds. If you have distortion before your max volume then put the amp in HP and turn the filter **** up until the distortion goes away. BT has great customer service so I would call them if you think your BT355's are out of whack. They should be able to set you straight over the phone. Keep in mind while those MMATS do have good SQ they aren't designed to play low and should be crossed no lower than 100hz.
So I went out and set the volume to 75%, filter set to full, was able to get gain up to 22 volts before clipping set in. To set the hpf could I simply set a tone generator for 100hz and filter it off that using the scope?
<edit>
So I went to try if I can set the HPF with my scope but it didn't work which has me concerned. I would have thought I shouldn't see the 100hz tone going to the speakers, but no matter how high I turned the freq dial I could still see it on the scope (yes was adjusting right dial and yes was set to hpf, triple checked). Doesn't that mean the frequency is getting to the speakers?
