Default Advise on new setup, 2011 Street glide

Just bought a new Metra inner fairing, Sony 7000 head unit, Fosgate DSR-1, and saddle bag 6x9 kit. I am currently running the stock head unit with Fosgate PBR300x4 and Alpine Type R 6.5 in the fairing.

Here are the specs on the 6.5's
  • 6.5"-inch Car audio 2-way speakers (pair)
  • RMS Power Handling: 200 watts per pair / 100 watts each / PEAK Power Handling: 600 watts per pair / 300 watts each
  • Frequency Response: 70-29 KHz
  • Sensitivity: 86 dB
  • Top Mount depth: 2-1/4-inch
I know the 6x9's are questionable, but didn't want to deal with painting new lids.

So should I stick with the Alpine's and the PBR300 or look at new speakers in the front and bags as well as a new amp.
I want something full, not tinny, and not looking for stupid loud. I used to do car audio so I have some tech in the audio front. Not afraid to spend some money on good items, but not looking for competition level stuff.

On a side note, why is there no love for Alpine speakers in the bike audio world?

Let the conversation begin

If you want a good quality sounding system, your going to need all new equipment. Lots to choose from. And you’ll get a ton of different ideas.

My personal suggestion is a pair of Faital 6rs140’, maybe som GZ horns, diamond 6x9 coax, SD 250 for horns, SD 1200.4 Evo X.

Again, this is just one of MANY different systems.

Thanks for that advice. I have been looking at the SD line of amps. I would really only like to run one amp. I don't want to put anything else inside my bags beside the speaker lids. I've seen the fatal mentioned a lot and have been trying to find a place local, or someone so I can hear them.

How are you enjoying the new setup? Thinking about going the same route with the metra setup.

A huge deciding factor will be your budget. I've heard the RF cut in speaker lid is decent, but the RF speakers in the kit, not so much. You may want to consider upgrading those speakers if you have room in your budget. The Mmats PA690.4cx are a not bad choice. The same goes for the Mmats PA601.4cx for your fairing
The Stinger SPX 700 or the Sound Digital 800.4 evox amp would be a not bad choice.
Cshocker has recommended the 6x9" DA coax sub, Faital speakers, Horn's, and the SD 1200.4 which would be a step up from the Mmats and Stinger combo in volume and sound quality, but also it requires more cash. If the Faitals, horns, and a second amp aren't something that works. I'm sure there is a coax out there that would work well with those subs.
