I’m interested in an easy and economical upgrade to the stock system in my 2008 SG. Most of the threads I’ve searched discuss upgrades to the newer model bikes. I’m really not interested in changing out the stock stereo or adding any rear speakers, but I’d like to add an amp and swap out the stock front fairing speakers to get a better/louder sound at highway speeds. I will be installing any new stuff myself, so simplicity would be a plus. I’d also be interested in buying used gear if any of you have stuff laying around which would be compatible with what I’m looking for. Thanks!
Don't know if this helps. I have an 08 UC. I recently bought some Polk Audio 6.5 inch to put in the fairing. I have a buddy that did that, replacing the stock speakers and IMO, it's a huge difference. Im still getting used to the fact I have a radio on a motorcycle ( Only had the UC for a couple months) and still ride a RK so, Im not sure how much I'll use it. The speakers are pretty inexpensive and an nice upgrade from stock. I also plan on keeping my stock unit and jsut bought a hogtunes bluetooth to put on my bike.
Update: I just bought some speakers on eBay (Titan XL 6.5” with the BT451 adapter kit). I’m curious to see how these sound hooked up to the stock radio unit w/o an amp. I’m currently plugging my iPhone into the aux jack on the front of the stereo and listening to Spotify and Pandora. Who knows, this might be all I need for now. I’ve never really had music on my previous bikes so I’m pretty happy. If I decide I want an amp, what are some good, budget friendly options that would play well with these speakers? I’m also open to buying used. Thanks
Well Breakman, it looks like you were the only person to offer a suggestion. Thank you! I’m going to install these 6.5 Titan speakers and adaptors in a few days, along with some Boom mat speaker baffles to my stock unit and see how it sounds at cruising speed. I saw a YouTube video of these baffle gadgets and I noticed an improvement. They were cheap so I figured why not.
You might get away with just upgrading the speakers but an amp in play will be much much better and insure that you hear it at speed. If you are using the HAT 6.5 from biketronics then you might get away with it. If you have the biketronics titan kit with the adaptors then you probably have the hertz hcx 165 speakers that have been rebadged with biketronics lables. Those require some power to get loud and you will most certainly need an amp. If using a stock HU then you will need an amp that will run off of high inputs. (speaker wires from the HU). Stinger spx 700x4 and mmats 4110 amps will both run off of high input.

Thank you for the info! I’m pretty sure the ones I’m getting are the rebadged versions. The outer ring around the front of the speaker says Hertz and the sticker on the magnet says Biketronics model BT447. I’m assuming this is an older version of the Titan II since I can’t find much info about it online. I would really appreciate it if you or anyone else can confirm which speaker version I have.
Look up hertz hcx 165 pics and see if they look like yours with the off set tweeter that can be turned to face you when installed. If that is the case those are damn good speakers with great SQ but need power from an amp to get them to sound good.
