I installed the speakers and added a cheap amp that I bought at Walmart. The size of the amp posed a bit of a problem sitting on top of my stock radio. It wasn’t allowing the fairing to close, so I ended up having to use a drimel to remove some material from the bottom of the speedo and tach gauges. The material I removed doesn’t seem to effect the structural integrity of the gauges at all and removing it allowed me to slide the amp in just enough to close the fairing. The amp came with an app to adjust the gain and hi pass/ lo pass, so that was helpful. I can hear music a lot louder and clearer now at highway speeds so I’m a happy camper!

Well crap!! Everything was going great until yesterday. While riding, I lost all sound even though the stock HU display appeared to be functioning fine. Long story short, I figured out how to run a diagnostic on the HU and found a B2017 code which I found out means the HU is no longer recognizing the fact that it’s sending the signal to the amp and not directly to the speakers. From what I’ve read, there is no way to fix this issue aside from sending the HU to be repaired at a company called Iron Cross for around $275. Is this accurate info? If so, I’ll be in the market for a different HU. My buddy has an Aquatics AQ-MP-5BT-H in his EG and he’s been happy with it. I might go that route unless any of you have other suggestions. I’m all ears....

It is hit or miss on aquatic head units. They have a history of working for just about as long as the warranty is and then go out. Some have had good units but most go south in a year or so. When they work there hey and e decent but when they go there is no repairing them and they are just trash. With that being said, I would look into a Sony or Kenwood head unit with a thumb control interface and be done. Things to look for are 5v preouts, white background on the display and Bluetooth/ Siri type service because depending on the amp you will loose fm reception.

It sounds like I shouldn’t spend a ton of money on something that’s going to poop the bed a year from now anyway?
