Default Newbie Help

I have a 2017 Street Glide with a Sony head unit. Unfortunately, the stock Harley 2 ohm speakers were left in. It sounds like garbage and I don't want to damage the head unit with mismatched speakers. I know very little about stereo systems, but I'd like to do a basic amp and front speaker upgrade. I have no intention of adding rear speakers at any time. I don't need the greatest or loudest, just something clear and usable at highway speeds. I'm not sure I want to tackle this myself and may take it to an audio specialist for a new system. However, I could be convinced to do it myself if it's not incredibly difficult. (I am mechanically and electrically inclined) So.....recommendations with a budget of $1000 or so? Thanks!

I have an AX7000 running front and bag lid speakers with no amp and it’s adequate for my needs, good enough sound, volume, and clarity at 70mph. That said, I know many will disagree, but it’s just my experience.

i did change my own speakers, and I will tell you that the fronts require patience. It is rewarding when they’re done. I would reasonably guess that adding an amp is doable by yourself, my ‘14 has a space for it, and should be available as a plug and play. There’s plenty here that can give better details. I had not done ANY work on mine until I did that, and it works today, so....

Thanks. I thought about just changing speakers, but thought that I might as well consider an amp while it was opened up.

Theres no way a HU will power 4 speakers it will barely power 2 horns. They are probably distorting badly at 70 mph knowing it’s probably cranked. The speakers will be junk in no time. Get an amp
