Local H-D dealer to me is also a Rockford Fosgate dealer. They did a Brother's bike (same bike as mine, 2020 Road Glide Special) with the RF amp, 6.5" speakers and bag speakers for $2200. That included everything, even the flash. My question is this, is it worth it? His bike sounds incredible and I am not sure I want to do the work myself.
They are charging you $700 roughly to install that. It really is pretty much a plug and play set up. If you go to YouTube you can see them install the kit including the rear bags. If you have basic read skills it’s not all that hard and actually is fun to do and learn about your bike.
i’ve done a bunch of research as I am about to re-dive into this again. I did my 2014 back when new which included putting new bag speakers and front speakers along with a new amp. That bag was totaled and the only thing I saved out of it was my arc moto 600.4 amp. The 5x7’s in back were too small. This time around I’m going with the stock head unit reflash, my arc Moto amp and Mmats speakers in front and back. To do the speakers in the lids in back I’m buying the cutting kit from Rockford Fosgate but will sell the speakers. The Rockford Fosgate is a ok system but not great. For the dollars you can put together a very nice system, it might not be just as plug and play.
The thing to keep in mind about that Rockford kit's price is that amp sells for $400 retail. I have that amp. It is sitting on the shelf because it is too under powered for bag lid speakers.
The RF speakers do have one thing going for them though. They are definitely waterproof. In my case they just couldn't get loud enough to compete with my exhaust. The RF amp puts out 100 watts per channel. That is just barely enough for fairing speakers. Not nearly enough for 6x9s. I'm sure you could hear them at speed, but in my experience that's just not enough power to be able to hear the fully (meaning hearing a little bit of low end).
If the Rockford amp put out about 150 watts per channel then I think the kit would be a better buy.
