Default CB install 2020 RG ltd

Looking to purchase a 2020 or 2021 RG Limited. Would like some guidance on installing the HD CB and cabling. I prefer staying wired and not moving into the wireless components at this time. Any help with the install and parts list would be greatly appreciated. Thank you

I just did this last summer when I got my RGL. At the time, HD said that CB could no be added to a 2020 RGL. Figured out quickly that was only due to the fact they put that new for 2020 HD Connect module in where the CB would normally mount on the left (clutch) side. I bought the CB kit (includes mounting bracket) and installed it on the right (brake) side where the WHIM would normally go (if you went that route). Like you, I have no problem with the hard wired cable so mounted it in the place where the WHIM would go. The HD Connect was very short lived and they have actually discontinued it...and now when you look up the following CB parts, it says the CB fits 2020...go figure? Some guys have removed the HD Connect module altogether, some have just moved it elsewhere under the fairing. The next time my fairing is off, I may move my CB to the left (clutch) side where it would normally go.

Other than that, the wiring and antenna cable are all there under the outer fairing for easy hook up. All you need is the CB kit (76000486A), right hand switch pack with the PTT button (71500130C I think), antenna mounting stud (76000166), and the CB antenna.

Thanks Lefty!
Any knowledge on the wiring that needs to be installed for rider and passenger headsets? Is the 7 pin connection still on the console for the rider? I read somewhere (I think) that the passenger 7 pin plug has to be installed separately. I assume the intercom still exists? Did you need to have the radio "flashed" after the CB was installed? Is the CB the same as previous bikes or is it different? Thank again.
Nice bike!! That's what I'm looking for.

Hey Mr-DD...thanks for the compliment on the bike...I'm loving it! The Limited's (RG & Ultra) come set up standard with rider/passenger communication (intercom) so everything is there. The new bikes come with one wired headset...if you need a second one for passenger then you'd have to purchase that separately. Rider plugs headset into 7-pin in console & passenger plugs into 7-pin in the TourPak pod...nothing extra needs to be installed. If you had a RG or SG (not Limited) then yes, you'd have to add the plug-in(s). Like I mentioned earlier, on a Limited everything is already there on the bike as far as wiring, connections, antenna cable...nothing extra needed in this department.

Once the CB is installed then yes, the dealer will have to flash it in order for the CB to be activated and show up on your GTS screen. The CB kit 76000486A (or audio bike-too-bike communication as HD calls it) is the same unit for 2014 + year bikes. Hope this helps.

Thank you Lefty! I stopped by the HD dealer yesterday. They had a 2021 RG Ltd. on the floor. Reading your replies and seeing the bike it now makes sense. I’m accustom to having the PTT button on the left side. I’ve come across some info in the past that talks about a conversion that allows moving the PTT from the right side to the left. Any knowledge on that topic? Thanks again!

Glad it makes sense. Yes, apparently the PTT & Cruise can be swapped out side-to-side...PTT on left, Cruise on right like it used to be. It's not a big deal like moving switches, re-wiring or anything. Once you have your new right side switchback (71500130C) in place, it's a flash that the dealer would have to perform as it re-programs the bike. You would then switch out the buttons so it's labeled correctly. Some have just left the buttons as is. Numerous riders have had the flash done. I too was used to the PTT on the left side coming from a 2012 Ultra Classic but so far haven't found the transition to right side to be a problem.

If you haven't already, go here...https://www.harley-davidson.com/us/e...it/p/76000486A It's the CB kit you'll order. Scroll down and click on "Details" and it will open up to show you fitment and additional parts with part numbers (antenna, switchback, PTT button, antenna stud) you'll need. Further, if you click on "Installation Instructions" it will open a new page with full instructions.

Good morning DD. Got your PM...been tied up here today, so sorry for the delay. First off...congrats on the new 2020 RGL
I'm going to respond here on the open Forum just in case I'm mistaken and another member can point you in the right direction.

As far as I know, I don't believe the PTT button is available as a lighted button on it's own. You can buy just the cap (71500225), but the switch itself would not be lit.
Assuming your bike has Traction Control, I believe you'd have to buy the complete kit...71500561for $269.95 (online retailer may sell for less) https://www.harley-davidson.com/us/e...hes/p/71500561
In hindsight I wish I would have gone this route as the right side (non lighted) 71500130C retails for $170.86. For another $100 you'd get both sides...lighted.
