Time to upgrade speakers in 2019 Road Glide Special
Audio newbie questions for upgrading 2019 Road Glide Special Fairing Speakers. At this point I do not intend on adding Lid Speakers or a lower fairing but who knows in the future. I would like everything contained in the fairing if possible. My goal is to clearly hear music at highway speeds with best quality of sound within my budget which I would like to keep around $1500 to $2000. I really dont care how loud it is standing still. I have looked at RF Stage II kit for around $1K and would install myself but have it flashed/tuned at a local Audio Dealer. I read mixed reviews about RF and looking at several other options but get lost looking through threads and products from other manufactures.
Is a Coaxial Speakers or Separate Mid Range Woofers and Tweeters better for what I am trying to achieve?
Should the amplifier RMS rating match the total RMS ratings of the speakers? For instance would a 400 Watt Amplifier blow speakers rated at 100 RMS Watts each? I do not want to blow out either speakers or amplifiers and need to replace them often.
Would I need line levelers or a DSP if I have the current head unit flashed?
Interested in others experiences of their similar setups or what the wished they had done different. I would rather spend a little more now and not swap components a latter date. Thanks in advance.
Go to Facebook and look up aggressive audio. Those guys will put together all that you need to do it right without breaking the bank. I would suggest first getting you hu flashed right. For an amp that you can add to later is a sd1200.4 and a set of GZ yellow basket coax. You will hear it at any speed with good sq. You can also add lowers/rear speakers at a later date using the amp you already have.
I would look into a better speaker other than the gz coax if you're not on a budget. They are ok but there are plenty out there better. Depends on what you can afford. Best bet is to try to find others that run particular setups or have. Sound freaks has a ton of audio freaks and I'm sure if you made a post someone local would let you hear it.
Carlos at nvs Daniel hearn carl Bordner w jeffe rings Gil at Mavericks along w chris lowe are all super nice guys and helpful that have ran and heard every setup out there
Thanks for the suggestions so far and have been checking them out on this crummy Ohio weather day. I think I have a decent budget between $1500 and $2000 for the 2 speaker setup but would prefer to stay closer to the $1500 mark but don't mind spending more for better quality. I had other positive recommendations GZ Coax now and they seem reasonably priced but seem to be sold out at various websites I have visited. I have been looking at the GZ6.5SPL model. I am open to other suggestions but I will I hear a noticeable difference in terms of sound quality once on the highway if I get closer to $2000 mark.
@Thatdude596, I see you are from Ohio as am I. Have you dealt with local shops to go hear the various amp/speaker setups to listen to?
I have a set I will sell ya I'm pulling out. Biggest audio guys up north here are carl Bordner w jeffe rings brian Bowker at 77 customs( jason silliman owns both brian runs them. You also have vip in mentor and high roller customz. Theres a ton of them I'm sure down near c bus. Jeffe rings and 77 customz competes and do this for a living. They do very well to boot. Give them a call and your budget and what youre looking for.
If you're stuck on the gz brian sells a set of gz coax evox 800x4 harness and amp kit along w ll and use of their flash software for rental for I think it was 800 bucks.
Not necessarily stuck on GZ but have read positive reviews and had other recommendations. Went to a local dealer in Columbus but was steered immediately to RF (which may be great) but when I asked about the Hertz they had there I was told Hertz are great of showing off at Bike Nights. Not sure if the Hertz setup would be $200 or $1000 more than RF but they had it in their mind I wanted the RF setup. I am prefer listen while I ride not to impress anyone in a parking lot but if I can get a better sound for the cost of RF or spend a little more I would go that route.
