I have an 08 Electraglide and I will only be putting speakers in the fairing and the lowers. I removed the tour pack and need all the room I can get in my saddle bags for trips so I have no plans to put any speakers in the bags.
So do to a combination of indecision and lack of self control I ended up with 3 amps for two sets of speakers. Available Amps
SD 1200.4 EVOX
SD 800.4 EVOX
SD 400.4 EVOX Speakers
GZ Yellow Baskets
Hertz Hertz SX 165 NEO High SPL DSP
Dayton DSP-408 Head Unit
Kenwood KMM-X704 (5v Out)
My Plan
GZs in the fairing powered by the 800.4 (Bridged) Crossed at 70 Hz
Hertz in the Lowers Powered by the 400.4 (Bridged) Crossed at 100 Hz
This gives me 400 RMS to the GZs and 200RMS to the Hertz.
My thought process is the GZs will hit lower so I want to keep them closer to my ears and take advantage of the bigger air space in the fairing. The Hertz are more efficient and sound good right now with 200 RMS so they should be good in the lowers.
Does this sound right or should I use the 1200.4 for the GZs (600 RMS)and the 800.4 for the Hertz (400RMS). It just seems like that would be way too much power for both sets of speakers
I would think the 1200 bridged....if its the 2 ohm version, give the GZ's 300 each and then the Hertz dialed back on the other channel.....if you are looking for a single amp install to start with......then decide what your next steps will be for phase 2
Thanks for the reply. The 1200 is the 4ohm version so bridged its 600 Watts per channel. I already have it installed pushing the Hertz in the lowers and a pair of BT 7.1 Pros in the fairing. I was just going to swap the GZs for the BT-Pros but everything I have read says the GZ's can take a lot more power than the 200 RMS the 1200 puts out using it in 4 channel mode.
I bought the 800.4 thinking I would bridge the 1200 to the GZs and the 800 to the Hertz but I just think that's way too much power for them and my fairing was getting kind of full with the 1200, 800, and the DSP.
There won't be a phase 2 as I travel a lot on my bike and need all the saddle bag room for clothes and camping equipment so 4 speakers is all that I will be running 2 in the fairing and 2 in the lowers.
I really just want to make sure I am not underestimating what these speakers will handle. I want to run the GZs as low as possible so I know I need to watch the power I send them. In a video from NV audio Calrose said he ran them at 400watts crossed over at 65 hz so that was going to be my target/starting point. Seems to good to be true for a 6.5" speaker but I can adjust the x-over as needed once it's all installed.

Just me, and others that know way more can chime in, I would not run 400 watts to a GZ unless I had the knowledge, time and tools to ensure my tune was spot on and perfect. I have a hard enough time getting to 300 and crossing at 80............400, I would expect you will see that magic smoke crossed at 65.
There's no way those GZ's can take all 400w at 65hz. Just because Carlos is running them at 400w, doesn't mean the average guy can. I've watched all his videos well. I have also installed a handful of them myself from 130w to 350w, with and without DSP.
Kitehog keep in mind the more power you push to any speaker after a certain point the harsher it will sound. Add to that as watts go up the HPF has to go up as well to keep from shredding the speakers. This means not only harsher sound but less bass.
I know some folks want speakers to scream at them. If that is the case then throw watts at them and shine on. That being said I am pushing 150 watts to my GZs in the fairing with the crossover set at the manufacturer's recommended 50 Hz. I have them tuned the way I like them with a DSP. The lowers are also just getting 150 watts each. The nice thing about adding lowers is you don't have to push the fairing speakers as hard to hear your tunes.
Everyone's ears are different. I've had folks play systems for me that they dearly loved and it just gave me a headache. If I had your choices in amps I'd be tempted to stick with the 1200.4 and try the GZs. 220 watts to them should be plenty since you have lowers helping them out.
At the end of the day what your ears like is what matters most. Play around and see what you think.

I am going to install the GZs with the 1200.4 this evening and give it a shot...I guess I will use the other two amps to upgrade the stereo in my truck!

Go on the Facebook groups. Plenty of guys running the gz coxial at 350 400 watts. Ask around. Carlos isn't the only one lol
He crossed his at 135 hertz fwiw. You will find much more info on those groups and guys that have tried about every combo out there. Juice alex haze sbates are super audio smart. The rest of them fiddle **** around w their mmats and gains on Fri night for fun of that tells you anything. This isn't a rocketship and the speakers are only 240 bucks a set if you blow them both. Ask around enough and someone will share their info w you. Or you can listen to the three stooges and run 150 or 200 watts and tell everyone how fn great they sound and go adjust the amp settings Sat night and report back on Monday lol
