All these are valid points...and thats whats great about the new GTS. The GTS is a great radio that gives you android auto and apple carplay AND still has a great native nav system built in as well.
I use google maps for long trips for the real time traffic feature. But as mentioned I like the harley nav for other things like dealer locators and such.
I for one woud not trade my GTS for any current aftermarket HU. Until one comes out that is proven as water resistant as the GTS AND has complete hand control functionality, I'm sticking with this one.
I agree 100% weather is a big one for me in the Pacific North Wet.
Does anyone know the actual manufacture of the radio? I’ve see where it is PPI in this thread, but I also see
a web page called soundoftristate.com advertise it as the brand Soundstream. Looks like they are taking preorders for
$799.95.
PrecisionPower is the manufacturer. Sound of TriState is a retailer of theirs. Below is a Facebook post from a week ago saying the initial units were to be in the warehouse by Dec 10 and shipping yesterday.
December7at10:05AM · Ok, I have tried to stay out of this, but I no longer can. My name is Ronnie Brashear; I am Vice President of the company that makes this radio. I/We are the maker of the Motorcycle Radio above. Below are the correct stats of said radio; there is no debate after this as I make this radio. Model Number - HDHU.14 Water Spray rating - IPX5 (Google if you don't know) Screen is bonded (Very Important) Same technology as used in Marine Radios. Head Unit is 2 Ohm stable, allowing it to work with any Harley Factory system. The harness is the same 48 pin harness as the factory harness. (Plugs directly into the bike with no cutting/splicing needed) Handlebar controls - you will need the Scosche Model or the PPI Module, so the Handlebar controls work. These adaptors come pre-flashed for the 2014+ bikes. The plugs for the module are built right into the harness, so again, plug-n- play no wiring is needed. We have also added the mute option by pressing in on the Brake side thumb control to mute the radio. Lastly, the radio will be branded under our Premiere brand Soundstream Reserve. At the same time, all other MC products with be marketed under Precision Power. I have paid a crazy price to have these aired in from our factory as we speak. They will be in our warehouse on Friday. We will try to get orders out the same day; however, it could stretch into the following Monday, 12/13/2021. Copy and paste this to other forums for clarity for those who need to. Lastly, no one has this radio in stock, not even us. Anyone stating they have it in inventory is completely false. I hope this gives a better picture of what is going on. Happy Holidays All!! And thank you for your interest in our products. www.MotorcycleAudio.com"
have no fears on ordering from Sound of Tristate, they have one of their stores about 30 minutes from me, they are a legit stereo shop and well known in our area, the head units on the other hand, I ain't holding my breath on the release....
Would've been nice if the chassis was shorter like a Sony, can always use more room for amps. This headunit has no advantage for me over a stock GTS. headunit.

If I had a GTS I would not consider swapping. For us GT owners carplay is a nice option.
I give them credit for finally posting the owner's manual with the specs. As I suspected the FM radio sensitivity is worse than a stock unit. At almost a grand I would just save up and get a GTS, especially if I had an Ultra Classic. That way I could keep the headphone jacks for Intercom and CB. I guess Street Glide owners might have less to give up.
One thing that comes to mind though is if it would fit the Metra fairings for the pre-Rushmore bikes. If it would and it were possible to run a USB cable back to the tour pak or saddlebag to get the phone out of the weather I could definitely see a market there. I haven't found any mention of that though. If someone does have info on the fit with the Metra fairing it would be useful to post it.
