13 FLTRX, HK head unit with XM module. TM400ADx4 with 6.5's front and Bag lid 6x9's When I run a CD it's both LOUD and sounds good (mostly) Running XM or FM sound quality is no where as good. Playback from phone is not what I would call great either. using aux input. I was told to modernize. Is the new RF PMX-HD9813 head unit worth it? Gonna have to rip a shitload of music if I go all digital.

I had a 12 before. Swapped the head unit for an aquatics av as the RF wasnt out yet. At the end of the day, FM wont sound as good as a CD or MP3. However, overall it sounded better having rca outs. Sat radio has never been a good source for me either. Not in a car or bike.
I think the is still an active thread in this SQ conundrum and the HU plays a role, but the music source itself can be an absolute deal breaker.
Folks spend thousands on these cool setups but play **** music sources and wonder why things sound bad so they add a DSP or rip speaker out or whatever, but it's a common rabbit hole. Leverage technology and get a damn awesome music platform then make some assessments on the setup.
