Default 2019 SG upgrade

Back in the day, before a divorce robbed me of my beloved 2012 SG, I had set up the bike with Polk MM652s powered by a Rockford PBR300x2 amp which I found suited my needs very well. Ultranutz provided great step by step instructions for the install and it was pretty damn easy. Used his poly fill suggestion, which I found to work quite well. Flash forward and recently got a 2019 SG that I find to wholesale inadequate in terms of sound. I’m looking for some suggestions on a two speaker set-up, no intention to expand beyond that. I have a $1k budget and can do my own basic to intermediate level work. I have read and heard enough to avoid boxed sets from most places. I could go back to the Polk/RF setup, but I believe there are some better systems now.

I just installed these in the fairing GZCF 6.5SPL in my road glide i needed to cut the pods. They sound great and hit hard for a 6.5. A SD 400.4 would match up nicely. If you dont want to cut the pods my next choice would be the Hertz neo's https://www.hertzaudiovideo.com/sx-165-neo/

Thanks for the information. Is SD SounDigital? I think I found the right amp if it is.

I recently installed a 400.4 and I must say it's a nice amp and good power for the size and price.

Is the install pretty straight forward?
My old bike was relatively easy, getting the speakers mounted and wired was not too bad. The amp was about the same. Getting the tank off took the most time!

When I set the gains on the RF PBR I didn’t use a meter, if I’ve recall right, it was by ear.

No need to remove tank man, The frame is hollow down the top backbone and come out on either side of the batter compartment end and next to the neck on each side. Run some rebar wire through, hook to your amp cables and pull through. SO easy!

As long as you have no audible distortion at whatever volume you listen at then setting gains by ear is fine. Lots of folks look to squeeze all the performance they can out of the system but really at the end of the day as long as there's no smoke and it sounds good to you then it's all good.
