Default Speaker Volume dB

SD1200.4.4
Hertz 165 NEO & GZ Yellow
Dayton DSP

So.... on the countless hours of Youtube and Google surfing, I watched a guy recommend that you balance the speaker dB volume to be similar. My GZ upper fairing speakers were quite a bit louder than the Hertz 165 NEO lowers.

So I used Pink Noise to lower the volume on the Dayton Mixer page for the upper GZ's to where the Hertz Lowers and GZ Fairing were both within a few dB and I wondered if most do this or is this common practice?

Also, I crossed over my GZ's at 95 & 16k and the lowers I crossed at 350 & 20k,,, my thought was that I wanted to more of the mids and highs from the lowers and use the fairing for lower, mid and limited tweeter.

This is my first attempt at tuning so if I'm going down a bad path, please tell me. My max clean undistorted volts was only 22.5 volts with the DSP master volume at 0, but after I developed my settings, I double checked the Volts with DD-1 and O-scope to make sure there was no distortion.

Slowly learning :-)

You have any floor noise with the dayton master volume set at 0? I had to pull mine down around -5 or so.

I use the DB slider as well to pull back some speakers versus others. Mostly for me my horns to they're not so ear piercing.

Im confused by your 22.5 volts though. Where are your gains set for each pair? 22v for either of those speakers seem way low to me.

Yes and yes, I do have some noise at 0dB, so I'll drop it down and see how much that helps

Re: Volts...I'm confused as well, when I go over 25v I get distortion according to my O-scope, but my DD1 will let me go a little higher.

My source settings on the Mixer page are all at 0dB

What hu and volume setting are you at when setting gains? Did you confirm a clean signal from hu?

HU was clean with the volume all the way up,,, and then I set my gains with HU volume at 3-bars from max volume.

this week i'm going to try it again and bypass the Dayton DSP and see if I get a cleaner signal

I rued using the PAC filter but it made no difference .

IIRC the DD-1 starts lighting the distortion LED at >1%. What sort of distortion are you seeing on the scope? A little fuzziness of the sine wave, showing harmonic distortion, is fine but a clearly flattened peak (clipping) is not.

So floor noise and Dayton pops and other noises are different. I had no floor noise when I set up my dayton with mas volume at =5 or so, but had a pop when turning my bike on and off. The filter took those out. Daytons are known for having these issues, so that ground loop isolator is a must.

Try setting your gains again with the HU 3 from the top and make sure your dsp is all flat. Also set the max volume slider to around =5. Set your gains for your desired watts for each pair of speakers with the 1k test tone and speakers not plugged in. Once your gains are set, then set up your EQ tables and such, Then you can mess with the DB sliders to balance out your sound and volume levels for each pairs.

Ahhhh... I was taking any and all fuzz out, it was quite a ways from squaring off the wave, I'm certain it will go to 27volts now, thanks

I have no pops now, I follow this procedure next in a few days, thanks.

My dealership jacked up my flash for a second time, the 1st time they made is a 2 speaker setup with no Fader...... this 2nd time they got the Flash right but,,, they turned OFF my CB and now my GTS has only 5-presents on the screen, I'm almost afraid to take it back a 3rd time :-(

Anyone with the tool can flash it.. Find a reputable car audio shop if you lost faith in your dealer.
