I have the loud setting on and below 25 it's not real loud but after 30 it increases quickly! It starts to distort at 45 and goes up to 50 which is max. So far so good. I am getting use to Android Auto and how to use it.
from my Sony experience my AA isn't as loud/clear compared to say, straight off the USB flash drive (then again it might just be the file quality of the tracks)
I believe it has the 2Ω/4Ω option that the Sony does (when you have 4Ω speakers)
check out Volunteer Audios tweaks video for the Sony. From what I see in the interface its similar on the Soundstream, so the Custom equalizer settings/ extra bass OFF will help that distortion on un-amped speakers

It doesn't have the option to select 2or4ohm in the settings or extra bass. It does have a loud setting. I am still playing with the EQ and waiting for there video on optimized EQ settings. So far the FM radio is pretty much non existent but that really doesn't matter to me since all my music is on my phone. The other thing I have run into is my left thumb control that is suppose to skip songs has been Fast Forwarding the song instead of skipping them while in YouTube Music. I have reached out to VA to see if they know of this or if it's suppose to be doing it.

having read more specs it only has a built-in 2Ω300Watt amp (so I guess no need for the switch).
I will have to research using it with 4Ωspeakers. (I run Rockford Fosgate T1650's in my fairing sans amp at present) guess it'll be a good time to amp up
Volunteer Audio say it distorts with the LOUD function on. I'm guessing the optimum 14-band EQ, would be the same layout as shown on their Sony vid... but I guess EQ is subjective
How you finding the User Interface? (playing/skipping tracks, moving around the menus etc)

Here is the user manual with some specs.
This is a very simple head unit and is easy to get around in. I took it for a ride yesterday and it really boots up fast and starts playing where you left off I can't get over how quick it is.
I did the update yesterday they put out and even though all the updates they pushed I don't use right now I might in the future.
on YouTube, it's a bit long @ 48 minutes, but I've been watching this guy's channel for a while, and he seems to know what he's talking about.
He literally puts this unit under a faucet, during this review.

Yeah I watched his videos before buying one. There isn't much out there on these yet but I dont think it will take long.
You mentioned FM reception is mostly non existent. Have you had a chance to get any information from Volunteer Audio or Soundstream directly?
I currently have the HD Boom 6.5GT HU with Mmats in the fairing, Rockfords in the lids (at some point will upgrade those to Mmats) and Stinger spx700x4 amp.
I do listen to FM quite a bit so I am a little concerned losing FM reception. I also stream from my iphone so it just depends but we have some good rock stations here in Austin, TX, With my current setup I have no issues with FM reception.
Thanks for the update regarding your experience with the new HU.
