Hello everyone.

I already have a diagnosis. After checking all the wiring and not finding anything that could cause the two failures, I did the only thing left for me: try the radio on another bike. I tried it on a friend's who has another 2016. It showed the same errors, so the faulty thing is the source

I opened the device and I didn't see any burnt or broken tracks or transistors, so I can't look any further.

I just have to replace it. I'm thinking whether to go for a used one or switch to an aftermarket one. I'd like to keep the intercom and other features so I'm hesitant.

Thank you very much for your help.

Well that sucks, but at least you've found your issue.

I'm assuming we're talking about your 2016 harley radio. If so, man those GT units are pretty cheap now on ebay and else where. Like you, I'd hate to lose my thumb controls and such by going aftermarket.

If funds are no concern, you could also upgrade to the GTS. Used here they're still going for around 1200 to 1500 bucks USD, so that might not be an option. GT radios usually got for 300 to 500 USD. here.

Well it's a shame, yes. If a GTS came out at a reasonable price, I would be interested in upgrading, although I don't see it as essential. Except for the starting time I'm fine with the GT.

In this line, I take this opportunity to ask two questions.

Is the GTS also plug and play or does something need to be done to marry it to the ECU?

Can I load the European map that corresponds to my motorcycle directly on a US device or must I pay?

Thank you.

First of all, I'm glad you were able to resolve the issue. As I had mentioned I thought it would require swapping components (possibly including the radio itself) and luckily you had someone around to help with that. Thank you also for coming back to report your findings as that may help someone else with a similar issue down the road.

Now to your new questions. Yes the GTS is plug and play with the GT. Both use the same harness connector, SiriusXM module, USB cable, GPS antenna, etc. If you buy the GTS (or GT) in Europe it will come with the euro map set. If you buy from NA you will need to buy a different map set to load...if you choose to. One of the main advantages of the GTS is Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. With either, you could just use the GPS/nav functionality in the phone itself.

EDIT: Depending on the p/n of the GTS, if it is an older model being purchased you may need to install it in a newer bike first to upgrade the software and do a factory reset prior to installing it in your bike (with your 2016 FLHTK if the GTS is p/n 76000829A this step will not be required). In any case, after that the GTS (or GT for that matter) will need to be connected to a Harley Digital Technician II, Technoresearch Alaris or Centurian, Diag4Bike, or some similar flashing device to properly configure the new (or used) radio in your bike. Very simple stuff to do.
