I’m the new owner of a 2018 RGS and I’ve been out a couple of times already this year and I love the bike and so glad I made the switch.
Im trying to connect my phone through Bluetooth so I can play my own music and I’m not having any luck and there are a couple of other reasons why I want to try CarPlay. I’ve been reading through and it seems that it’s not possible on my year bike but it is on 2019 and up. The other option is to switch the head unit, maybe a HDHU14+
I want to upgrade the speakers and add an amp and maybe lid speakers as well in the future.
Any advise and feedback is welcome,
What kind of phone? I use a pixel and it was very simple to connect. You are correct no carplay until the 19 models. The HDHU14+ gets great reviews. Amp and speakers is wide open.
So I always get it mixed up, as I think they released the newer GTS in some models and not in others. But did the GTS come in the 2018 RGS? I thought those came with the GT radio, which does not have carplay or AA.
Had a friend with same issue with iPhone. Maybe you are doing this already and maybe this isn’t the problem. But hers would only work via Bluetooth if the phone was not plugged into the USB port.

In short, DO IT! I just did the HDHU14+ and have had the same Rockford Fosgate tm400x4ad amp, for over 5 years. Although it's plug and play, I was told to upgrade my speaker wires. I'm not sure if that was sound (pun) advise or not. My stereo kicks ***, though. I do have the saddlebag 6x9's, as well. The good news for you, is, you will not need a DSP, like I did with my oem Boom gt. Don't let anyone tell you that you can't hear the saddlebag speakers, because you can! Apple CarPlay, is awesome! It's as simple as that. It's easy as Hell to put in, as well. The sound is much cleaner, fuller and louder. My signature has my components, if you're interested in what speakers I'm using. I'm very satisfied with my choices. American Hard-bags, is a great source for audio parts. I recommend Hertz or Diamond speakers, that utilize neodymium magnets and are marine grade. The neo. mags. are very light, but, extremely powerful. Sorry about how messy it looks. It's a lot more tidy now.
