So I picked up a 11 street glide for this year. Has stock audio gear on it now.(which sucks) will I get a good enough benefit from replacing head unit and speakers for this summer. I read forum after forum and see and amp is best but I dont want to spend a ton on gear. Maybe decent new head unit and speakers in fairing to start.
Just some info. Search here FIRST. I went to a local guy for audio on my 14 SGS and its already costing me. I just purchased new speakers (mmats) that I'm hoping get me out of my pickle. Anyway, I put an Aquatics head unit in for a buddy on his 13 SG and he's very happy with it. I see the Stinger amp and mmats speakers are the consensus but I'm not sure they will work with pre rushmore bikes. Best of luck!

I have a 12 and the stinger and Mmats 601.4cx work great.
I've bought a couple different head units for different bikes..and to me i don't see much difference...aside from eq...but not worth it imo. You can just as easy tap into the wires going to your speakers and connect to the high level input of an amp. And use you stock head unit. From experience not adding an amp and changing head units only gives you more features..but no more sound.
I have installed without an amp...the aquatic av and the Sony av7000..the aquatic gave me no noticeable increase in sound. The 7000 ..a little
you can get a cv b52 and kappa speakers around 200 and will be much louder
I have a chance to buy used JM Rokker 4 speaker(with lids) and amp. I know the seller and is gently used and removed when bike was traded. From a lot of reading I see this is a quality system that wont disappoint. Guess I may have to dish out some cash.

Do not waste your money on that J&M crap. Come up with a budget that you can handle and let's see what we can cook up for you.
I went thru this a while back....I just wanted speakers and a head unit..and everyone said amp amp amp...it was a little frustrating because I really didn't want to add an amp. And I thought a good head unit and speakers would do it for me...i didn't want a banging system...just some music..
But after many trials and much disappointment....I added an amp...and it made a world of difference. Unimaginable even. Probably..maybe
with the wind noise and pipes its just nearly impossible to get enough sound while on the hwy. Power made the difference.
I installed a sound digital 800.4 with hertz millie165.3 6.5s in the fairing.. that setup was very loud and clear. I think those speakers and amp can be had around 500? Maybe even a smaller amp will do .but I wanted to add bag lid speakers too.
I ended up adding diamond audio 6x9s to the bag lids and now...for me. The system is amazing. And I think I stayed under 1000

Not sure where you have found info on the J&M being a quality system. I wouldn't recommend the J&M. Been there done that 5 years ago, but there is so much better gear out there now for the same or less money. The J&M Rokkers will leave you unsatisfied and wanting more. You'll be back here before summer is over looking for upgrades.
