Default Radio ground?

1999 EG classic with Aquatic radio.

Last week I replaced my inner faring supports to the plastic ones. I had replaced 2 sets of the metal ones over 10 years, so I figured I'd give the plastic a try. One of the first rides afterwards I discovered the radio does not turn on. Last night I had the fairing open to troubleshoot fuel gauge issues, and I tested the voltage for the two power pins for the radio, both were good. Don't know why I didn't test the ground too, but I will later tonight. Fuses were also good. All other instruments work. I had buttoned everything up so I can ride it to work today. When I got home I decided to do a quick tests and reach up the triple tree to ground the radio body to the frame, and it worked.

I know there is a ground wire on the harness, and I will test that tonight. My question is does the radio body also need to be grounded? And did I take that required ground away when I switched to the plastic supports? I feel the answer should be it only needs grounding through the harness.

Disregard, that was a stupid question. After tracing wires I discovered the radio ground plug hasn't been connected this whole time, probably since I painted the bike in 2013 . So its been grounding through the fairing supports and it didnt rear its head until i took the metal away. All is good now.
