CB / CarPlay
The older headsets have a higher impedance which allows them to work with CarPlay. The newer models have a low impedance which is why they will not work.

It may work with a GT head unit...but the GT does not support CarPlay.
My wife & I, as well as some other riders I ride with have Cardo PackTalk units and use them pretty much exclusively now. So much easier, convenient & better. No more hard-wire. Music is great, communication is stellar (no push-to-talk), battery lasts all day, rainproof...what's not to like?

I too have the wired headsets and also a set of helmets with Cardo. I use the same rule - on long trips when the group is using CB, I go wired. Mostly on short trips or if we are by ourselves, we go with Cardo.
You mentioned that the music is great with Cardo - I usually run my XM over my speakers. Don't stream any music from my phone. Sometimes the Cardo picks up the XM and I get feedback. Since my wife doesn't really listen to music, I have been thinking or trying to see if I can stream XM to my headset.
Also, when I am wired, I listen to my AA over my helmet speakers. If I am using my Cardo, I can only listen to my AA over the bike speakers; hove you found another way?

I'm using an iPhone but I'm certain there must be a similar way with AA. I have the apps for Spotify, Prime Music, XM on my phone and can stream any of them...plus my music library from my phone. The nice thing about streaming is I can choose the music I want in my helmet, and my wife can choose her own music (different from mine) in her helmet. My iPhone is connected by bluetooth to the GTS head unit, and my Cardo is connected by bluetooth to my iPhone. Only my phone is connected to the GTS, not my wife's. With this set-up, whatever music I'm listening to is up on the screen of the GTS and can be controlled by the bikes hand switchgear or on the Cardo.
This way, I just bring up AirPlay (again, AA must have something similar) on my iPhone and choose where I want the music to go to...either my Cardo or the bike speakers. If choosing the bike, it will either say Boom, or CarPlay if the "jumper" is plugged in.
If you went this route, you could download the XM app to you phone (if you haven't already) and stream it to your helmet and nothing coming from the bike speakers to "bother" your wife.
I've posted this in some other threads, but this is what it looks like for my iPhone (sorry for the big pics)...
AirPlay (top right corner) screen on my iPhone....tap on that >
This screen comes up. Cardo PackTalk is selected/checked here so music to my helmet speakers...
Or, Boom is selected/checked here so music to the bike speakers...
Hope this helps. A little off topic from the original post but feel free to reach out with any questions.
I have downloaded XM and can play that in my helmet. Figured since it is cold out here, may as well sit by the fire and play a little.
So, the XM comes out just fine. My wife does not hear any music - and, from your post, it sounds like she may have to connect her phone to listen to any music being streamed. We can both get FM from Cardo.
I also pulled up AA and got directions. When I did that, I could get both the directions and also XM. With that, I would have to use my phone for the map because it is not connected to the bike. So, when I plug the phone into the USB port in the phone cubby - not sure what will happen (bike is in storage - cover for winter). Ideally, I am hopeful that the map will come up on my bike but that I could still hear the directions on my phone.
Before I put the bike away, I could plug my phone is, open something like XM and hit play - the music would come out of my speakers. Didn't want to constantly run XM from my phone so I had it installed on the bike
Guess I have a little more learning to do.
