Default Need a little help with upgrade

My bike is a ‘16 ultra, I’ve decided on a system and am gathering pieces. I’ll be putting yellow baskets in the fairing and hertz neos in the tourpack pods. I also have a sd 1200.4 on the way. I just have a couple of questions for now but I’m sure there’ll be more later. Will 8ga power and ground be sufficient for this amp or will it require 4ga? I am also wanting to get a t harness to make my life a little easier. I looked at the Cicada one and was a little confused, it says it’s not plug and play wit SD amps, not sure what would have to be done to make it work. Do any of you have recommendations on what to get or where to purchase from? Is there anything else as far as wiring I’ll need? Thanks.

The reason the T harness won't work on the SD amp is that the amp only takes low level inputs on the RCA connectors and the harness is putting out high level (speaker level) outputs. Most amps would be ok with this but not SD. You could chop off the RCA connectors on the harness and use the amp's high level inputs instead.
IIRC that amp will take 4AWG power and gnd cables

Thanks for the reply. I’ve seen several kits for 8ga power and ground, does anyone know where to get a 4ga kit? Or just get the pieces and make one?

With the OP having a 16 and more than likely a GT HU it is highly advisable to flash it which will lower the voltage at the RCAs and will be fine to use with an SD amp.

I have used the Cicada TSLINK many of times without issues after flashing the HU.

I bought both the American Hardbagger and Garage bagger... just dont use the RCA's and use the Ferrule ended wires for the speaker input, they come with both

Also, the SD manual states i think 5-guage in it .... so 4-gauge is good, same as we used, OFC

I do have the gt head unit. As of right now I’m planning on keeping it and having it flashed. I found out I can get the 4ga from the local shop and they will crimp the ends on, they will be able to flash the head unit as well.

I found this one at garage bagger https://garagebaggerstereo.com/produ...or-stock-radio says it will work with the sd. I’ve read conflicting information that some say to use rca’s like this and some say not to. Starting to question whether I actually need to spend the money on one. Any input?

I’m will also be running all new speaker wire while I’m at it.

Thanks for the replies.

You don't have to use a T harness but it does make things a lot easier. The harness you link here adds LoCs which I don't like to use if possible (just another device in the signal path to potentially cause problems). I wasn't aware that the flash also lowered the output voltage on the HU per Babyboy, and I'm not sure what flash he prefers, but I would trust what he says. Get the HU flashed and use the T harness with the RCA connectors to the SD RCA inputs or alternatively, chop the RCAs off and wire to the SD high level inputs.

I use the harness on 2 bikes now, just to keep it clean and the connections are fool proof, even for me :-)

Got my 4 gauge on Amazon... bought 10 feet which is plenty, 5 foot is probably too short, I am guessing
