RDVFL CP/AA Mirror thread
its a wireless solution for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, phone mirroring, plus access to Youtube and Netflix! Works with OEM and Soundstream radios that have wired CarPlay and Android Auto
haven't seen to many posts around the net about this product, but I'm pretty sure there are few on this forum with one
Anyone figured out how to exit out of Android Auto/CP and back to the modules homescreen?
seems to be a one way street going into Android Auto/CP. If I power cycle then it gets me back to the initial module homepage (so I can select say USB play buttons from the RDVFL home)
The reason I want to stay within the module is the use of joystick cursor control rather than touch the screen
Anyone figured out how to shorten the boot animation? or remove it totally?
while I'd be happy to have their RDVFL animation logo flash up, the whole multiple long winded boot screens makes it feel like the old 6.5GT forever loading startup.
I had a dig in the settings and found a couple of other animations, so I wonder if they could create a much shorter one perhaps?
...I've dropped the developer an email, but while I wait I thought I'd throw it out to the peanut gallery
RDVFL Automotive Technology homescreen
once you enter Android Auto/CP this appears to be the only screen you can exit to
...and this is the HDHU.14si homepage BEFORE the module kicks in
Now in the modules homescreen if you were to hit Android Auto/CP you'll enter the usual walled garden you know and love. but the problem I have is how to EXIT that garden back to the module home.
If you use the bikes SOURCE button, when you select CARPLAY, it auto returns back into Android Auto in my case (skipping the module homescreen)
hope that makes sense
MOTORCYLE INFO is the basic info screen of the bike (EITMS/GEAR/OIL/LIGHTS WORKING etc), and GAUGES, well that's the detailed gauge screen
***FOOTNOTE: unless you are in Android Auto/Car Play you wont be able to use the cursor controls for everything

...but that icon doesn't seem to appear on my screen in Android Auto
one big positive about switching to this wireless module: I've been suffering some Android Auto issues on my phone. I thought it was the USB connection as the cut-out happens in my car as well as on my bike (two different cables...same issue) all of a sudden it quits!
Now I've cut the cord, I can safely say the issue is the phone as I'm riding along and suddenly AA closes. Quick press of the right joystick and it reconnects.
annoying, as it's a brand new Google Pixel 6a phone with the latest droid and AA loaded

Just curious after a few months is the adapter still working good?
The biggest problem is my darn phone the Pixel 6a. Only a few months old.
Its clearly came with a bluetooth issue which a network reset seems to have now cured (at the loss of 86 pre saved networks)
but Android Auto has been a glitchy SOB since they released Coolwalk. Even via cable
(which I now seem to have solved using a certain brand on my Sony 7000 that's now in our car)
One trick I've found is to close all open apps BEFORE setting off on an Android Auto ride and then it's pretty solid
My phone is in a Top Shelf organiser in my Left Hand Saddlebag, the RDVFL in the jokebox compartment on the dash
While maps are running fine using Coolwalk, music from the phone will begin to break up if I'm around 3 or 4th gear, in the 1800-2100 RPM range
If I lean to the right (I sh*t you not) and let a better line-of-site open up it will stabilise and usually go about its business again.
When I pick up speed not a problem, but keep crawling at that range and it will bug out and not reconnect. only sometimes.
I'm wondering if the plugs or leads are creating some form of RF
If I don't run music and just have Google maps on screen, then I don't seem to suffer the issue at that range.
Only seems to effect the Bluetooth audio codec and not the video one IMHO
personally I would say its my phone rather than the RDVFL.
My only gripes with the RDVFL would be price and the s l o w animated boot time.
But once its on it seems to work great, as expected.
....and no I haven't used Youtube or Netflix at all, only to amaze myself when I'm sat in the garage and laugh at the thought of using it while out and about

The head unit works perfectly with a USB cable to my phone. I am wondering if I got a bad CP/AA mirror. It is dangerous trying to troubleshoot it on the road not to mention losing nav directions in the middle of Salt Lake City in traffic…
l’ll contact Volunteer Audio after my trip but until then would be interested in your thoughts.

(we are talking the large spinning wheel as it connects to the phone?)
I like to keep my phone in a tray in the rear of my left saddle bag, the mirror being in the joke-box compartment up front right.
when I start getting audio breakup, if I physically lean to the right and improve a line of sight, the audio improves.
If I let it break up too much the mirror drops out and I lose connection, and the spinning wheel wont auto reconnect.
A real pain when Im needing directions from the map. If then pull over and move the phone near the mirror it reconnects.
if I have the phone in my belt holster, it vastly improves this connection
if I put the phone in my front facing inside pocket I barely lose connections at all.
Ive also found stopping audio, keeps the map from disconnecting as described above.
So when I really need to be somewhere I sacrifice the audio and keep the map on
YMMV
When it lost pairing on the road it didn’t do the large spinning wheel. It just displayed the word “loading” on a black background. The other times it froze, the map was displayed but wasn’t being updated.
I forgot to add that it took 5 or 6 reboots on initial setup before the mirror would launch carplay. That was with my phone sitting on the seat. When it does seem to be working it often drops out of carplay and goes into the CP/AA screen. Sometimes from there I can’t get it to relaunch carplay
I’m ready to return it if it’s that sensitive and just run a wire. Thanks for your thoughts.
