Default Cardo pack Talk edge non HD branded Issues

Hi guys,

Bought pack talk Edge units wile at Sturgis because our old Sena smh10’s stopped holding a charge.

Having issues when connected to WHIM.

First, when music is on, I can barely hear when my wife speaks. If not connected to WHIM all works well with voice and music sound.

Second, once connected to whim, I cannot access the cardo app, it shows device not found, so I can’t even check to see the com sound setting levels. WHIM com volume is set at max.

Lastly, the battery from full charge only lasts about 4 hours then dies. - this is the main reason I replaced the Sena.

Originally bought the new SENA 60 fom J&P but that would not pair with whim, it’s a known issue and SENA refunded me no questions asked. (They were on site)

The first cardo set I bought would not connect to whim, and they would only replace them with another set. Everything worked well for the first hour (they had the cardo rep install and test after the exchange) but now I have this issue and my music has a lot of static. When I went back, they had packed up, and were gone. (This was early on at the rally)

Tried to return, but J&P cycles wouldn’t return without a Cardo rep confirming it was bad.

Frustrated to say the least. Spent way too much rally time on this while I was there.

did I get another bad set, or are theses things not compatible like the new Senas

Had the same problem with the NON-HD Sena 50S's. Not compatible with the WHIM.

I have a set of Cardo (non-Halley units). Once charged they seem to last for ever. The other day, I was out about 6 or so hours and it still said 75% battery left.

Cardo customer service is pretty good. Surprised JP would not take the return before talking to the Cardo Rep.

Now before trying to return, let me know how you have been trying to connect this to the WHIM. A non cardo will connect but, it will not be in stereo.

Also, let me know how you are using the Cardo units. If just to talk to your passenger and hear your music and directions, you might try another option. If you have a CB and need to talk on that, this option will not work for you.

Couple of guys in my chapter have the Cardo Harley branded and the WHIM - it connects just fine .

So, write back and I will try to help.

Thanks for replying!

Uses:
1. Connect to boom GTS for CarPlay
2. get music and nav through CarPlay
3. My wife rides her own, so we use them to communicate.

I have my packtalk paired to the bike as a headset. My CarPlay works but have static music.

When connected to CarPlay, my wife can hear me fine, but her sound is so soft I can’t hear her.

if I connect to my phone we can hear each other fine, but lose my CarPlay.

Notes:

I have my phone paired as phone 1

I have my boom paired as a headset to the bike setting. (I tried to use phone 2 just to see if that would help, but that will not let sound in to the helmet from the speakers.)

Every time I connect to the bike, it disconnects from the phone, and even with the bike off, and will not pair back to the phone. I have to reconnect to the phone by forgetting the device and do a new connection.

My intention is to use this with my adventure bike too and that requires me to be connected to my phone.

I have an iPhone 16 pro max and the boom gts has the latest update.

OK, if you are not talking on a CB, I would recommend you use the J&M Dongle. This will connect directly to your bike and you will be able to hear music, talk on your phone, here directions from the bike GPS or hear from carplay.

This ties in under your faring. Did your bike come with the WHIM or do you have it installed?
Advantage is - this gives you stero from your bike. So, all of your music, directions are stereo. You can separately connect to your phone.

Also, since your wife is riding her on bike, she should connect her Cardo to her phone (as phone one). Then, using the Cardo app, you can connect directly to her.

Also, the dongle handles just one headset. However, I purchased a separate/different dongle. It can connect to two headsets. So, if your wife wants to listen to your music or hear your directions, she can (my wife does not want to hear mind).

We cna talk more and I cna share what I have learned. BTY, I upgraded my dongly. Original last about 12 hours. My upgraded one last about 24 hours before needing a charge. I charge it when I charge my headsets.

whim was installed by the dealer at the purchase of the bike (2023 Road Glides ST) it worked fine with our SMH10s’s

do you have to replace the whim or does it work in conjunction with it?

what’s another $135 now. I have $750 + headset hardware for 3 helmets - we both have modular, half helmets and our adventure bike Helmets. Have close to $1k In on this project with the added headsets.

With this much in, I’d hate to buy another thing if I can’t get it to work Like it should from the factory.

So I have the Packtalk Edge and connected as follows:
1. Phone (Android) connected via usb to GTS(WHIM equipped), also equipped with CB.
2. Packtalk Edge connected to WHIM

I connect to passenger (also Edge equipped) via DMC. I channel my music to headset via Whim although it is mono-sound. This is not a problem as I wear earplugs. My CB also is channeled to my headset. My passenger listens to their own music and makes phone calls while we ride.

I understand. Both my wife and I have two sets of helmets; one with wired communications and one with the Cardo.

I am not sure if this works in conjunction with the WHIM. Essentially, it does everything the WHIM does, except it allows you to transmit using your mic. This does not affect your ability to talk to your passenger (or other wireless riders) or to answer your phone if you choose to do so.

If you move the headsets to your other helmets, they will still work.

Do you work on your bike yourself. To install this, you have to remove the outer fairing and just plug it in.

You can review this link - hope it helps.

@cycle7447 thanks for the help.

I do work on my bikes, so installing won’t be an issue. I’ll check it out. Before I buy, I am going to reach out to cardo tech support and see if they have any insight or if they will issue a refund approval.

If so, I may go back to the Sena SMH 10 or 20’s. (If they are still in production) I know they work.
