i recently installed an elf e2125x amp and j&m rokker series 7.25 speakers in my streetglide. it sounded great for a day brought bike to harley for some work afterwars stereo still sounded great about an hour or so later amp cut off. i opened the fairing back up and noticed the red light on showing a problem. anyway now if i have the gains all the way down and turn radio past halfway the amp cuts out, if i turn gains up it cuts out less that 1/4 volume. any help or suggestions?
First, take it back to the dealer and tell them it worked BEFORE you brought it in for service and you expect them to fix it. Second, find a reliable Harley Certified Service shop that IS NOT a dealer. SOME dealerships are notorious for being awesome so long as they are selling you a ride or accessories.
When you get your Elf amplifier fixed, contact J&M for our latest style of amplifier input cable to utilize the pre-amp RCA jacks on the side of your amplifier, instead of the high-level inputs ,,,,,
This will better isolate the HK radio from the amp & also correct the speaker fault diagnostics inside the HK radio, when connected to an external amplifier ,,,,,,

i took apart my bike again today and have had elf amp hooked up to the stock speakers all day and working fine. i think its the speakers it dont sound like the mids and tweetrs are working at all. hope eastern performance or j&m does the right thing only installed everything on friday. thanks for the heads up about using the rca's
man, everyone jumped on the dealer for this problem. :-)
i too think your speakers are the issue. The amp will cut off for 1 of 3 reasons;
1. overheating (don't think that would be an issue)
2. shorted speakers (your tweets and mids being out is a good indication of this)
3. starving for power (bad power or ground)
Sounds like the crossover on the speakers is the issue to me. Just communicate with John (JMJOHN); he is a STAND UP guy and will make it right. Have had no dealings with Eastern Performance so I can't speak for them.
You didn't say what you brought it to the dealer for. I tend to think it is a bad ground. It could be any of the above but that is what I would check first. there is always also the possibility that the dealer blew your speakers showing off your sounds to other techs.
thanks for the input brought it to the dealer for engine light ended up being a bad cruise control switch. as far as them cranking the stereo i was there the whole time other wise i would agree with that. ive also checked the ground and its good ive had it hooked to stock speakers since yesterday with the gains about 3/4's up and no cutting out at all. i emailed eastern performance no response im gonna try jm john i have heard he is a good guy.
