...can't believe there's only 4 threads in this forum. I came here thinking all my questions would already have been asked and answered 10X.
I'm wanting to upgrade my '12 Street Glide's audio. I'm fine with the deck, but definitely want to add an amp and new speakers to the front. I'm not interested at this point in adding lowers w/speakers or lid speakers to the bags.
Specifically, I'm wondering how big I can go with these speakers and still fit the 5.25" opening and if I go bigger, where do I find adapters?
Secondly, in looking at amps, I'm like something small, probably in the 150-250 watt range, that can easily be hidden/mounted in the fairing.

thanks for any input!
be nice...there's plenty of threads...look up RF PBR300x2, PA MM651, ARC Audio 6.5 Adapters...or even look up J&M Rokkers...plenty, plenty options...do you know how much you want to spend? because that will dictate what will work...

Most of them are in the touring section and not in audio. I did the Rockford Fosgate system from Bagger Nation, they have a number of different systems.
I wasn't trying to be 'not nice.' promise. In all fairness, the sub-forum is titled, "Audio Systems" and there are only 4 threads in it, including mine.

$500 or less is my budget.
I got 6.5" in my fairings. Lots of companies make the adapter rings.

ok, busting your chops!
here's what i did...
- i checked out HogTunes and Boom Audio at a couple of "stealerships"...it was ok for me...
- i checked out J&M stuff at Daytona Bike Week this year...nice but pricey...
- i educated myself and reach out to a couple of very helpful forum members, recommended installs, tricks, pictures, etc. and ended up with the RF PBR300x2 and PA MM651...8k miles later, my system still rocks...
i did the install myself...with all the parts and supplies at hand and just taking my time...3 hours i think at most...i think i spent about $350...
6.5" are the most common upgrade unless you want to shell out a bunch of cash on a new inner fairing that will hold 6x9's. You could probably get a local audio shop to make you an adapter to hold a 7" speaker, but then you're going to be looking at mounting depth, weight, etc... as other potential problems. My personal favorite in good quality speakers is either Polk Audio, MB Quart, Focal, or Boston Acoustics. All have crystal clear clarity, good sound quality and can be found often times as NOS on eBay for a good price. MB Quart makes several amplifiers that will work, as does JL Audio or Rockford Fosgate. In my honest opinion I would upgrade the H-D deck before I worried about new speakers and an amp. Most better decks will have adequate "clean" power to run your stock speakers much better than the OEM deck. Just my $.02
Thanks everyone! Good info. Definitely interested in that RF amp. I've had RF amps in the past and have always been pleased with them for the price. Definitely getting a set of 6.5" adapters as well. Then, I just need to go listen to lots and lots of 6.5's till I find what suits me. CPT America, I definitely hear on you getting cleaner power from a better head unit. Also something to consider.

I've got Polk Audio DXi650's. The nice thing about them is that they're marine rated speakers so they'll accommodate a little moisture. You can usually find sets on ebay pretty reasonably priced. I'm working on dropping in a Pioneer AppRadio as my head unit once I get my aluminum sheeting to make an overlay of the inner fairing.

Not. You can go up to 7-1/4" speakers in your batwing with adapters, just as easily as the 6-1/2". http://www.jmcorp.com/ProductDetail....D=HCSK-7252GTM. You can also get their amp, which is small and easily fits on top of your factory head unit. Between the speakers and amp you'd be a little over your budget though. I wouldn't buy directly from J & M if I were you though, as you can get it cheaper from a third party like Dr. V-Twin. They saved me about 200.00 on this set-up over buying it directly from J & M. I personally would go with their amp again (250 watts, 125 per channel), but I'd get different speakers, like polk or a few others out there.
