Default FLHTK Audio options

I am looking at upgrading the audio on my new FLHTK. I have the tourpak quick detach and ride mostly without it. I am thinking about doing a 4 channel amp running the fairing speakers and lower fairing speakers. Then I figured I could use a second amp for the tourpak speakers and have it set up for quick detach.

What would be the best option for mounting the amp to the tourpak? How easy would it be to make the connections for it quick detach? My main concern is the power from the battery.

For the fairing speakers I know that I a lot of people mount the amp above the radio and move the CB module below the radio. I have the iPod module next to the CB module. Do they need to be relocated or can you just mount on top of them? Does it work to relocate both modules?

What are my best options for this set up? I have been looking at Bagger Nation, Dragonfly and Soundz Customz. Anyone else I should look at? Currently, I have been leaning towards Focal. I have read that the RF amp can get a little to hot in the fairing. That and the strict 4 ohm requirement seem to make it a little bit of a pain.

Everyones thoughts are appreciated.

here's my .02 worth
**the PBR300x4 is the 4 ohm 4 channel amp. the PBR300x2 is the 2 ohm 2 channel amp

Get a Soundstream PN4.520d 4 channel amp to drive your fairing and lower speakers and is a 2 ohm amp.
Make those speakers the Polk Audio MM651 speakers for fairing and lowers.
that will take care of the front.
The tourpak is actually fairly easy.
drop a set of polk mm651s in there as well these 6.5" speakers will drop right into your 5.25" holes with no modifications other than drilling new screw holes.
get a RF pbr300x2, install it into the bottom of the tourpak. it's small and will be out of the way.
get a heavy guage 5 wire trailer harness male and female connector kit from the auto parts store
tie 2 of those trailer harness wires together, fuse appropriately and run to battery for power.
tie 2 of those trailer harness wires together and run to battery for ground
the RF PBR300x2 has an autosensing circuit that turns the amp on when it senses signal from the radio on the speaker wire inputs so no remote wire hook-up is needed.

Thanks for the offer. I think I am going to have to pass though. Got a hectic week coming up with Christmas just over the horizon.

How does the soundstream fit in the fairing? It looks to be a decent size. I'm not familiar with the brand. Are they really good? Amazons got it for $136 Not a bad price at all.

oh yeah.. sorry didn't see the CB/iPod relocation question. Yes you'll need to relocate them below the stock headunit.

So what do I need as far as wiring? Do I need to get 2 amp install kits or do I just need the power wire and ground wire? What gauge do I need? For the ground can I just attach to the frame or do I need to run it to the battery?

no sir... all you will need is an 8ga power wire to run directly to the battery fuse appropriate fuse holder located near the battery. You also want your ground wire to be 8ga. Grind off the paint on your vertical fairing bracket, attach your ground there, then spray rustoleum over it once attached. You do NOT want to run your ground all the way back to the battery.

With the bike you have, the iPod, and CB unit both can be mounted below the OEM HK radio, and does need to be done to allow enough room for an amp. The second amp fits just fine in the tour pac and if ordered through Dragonfly we supply all needed wiring, and water proof quick disconnects, fuses, ETC for getting the job done. Just make sure you let us know the application desired at time of order to make sure we get you all the proper harnesses, and connectors.
We do prefer the ARC amplifiers for the quality, and performance they have. We have been using them exlusivly for almost 4 years and have been more than happy of the quality. They are not the cheapest, but the forums are full of not "Everyone" being happy with buying the cheapest.
