Default Couple questions

New to me 2006 ultra 2 weeks ago...Pulled apart to paint inner fairing.
Thinking of upgrading audio, been doing alot of reading.
while its apart.

* Will removing the cb module interfere with intercom operation? I belive the intercom is built into the radio itself but not sure?

* Will the sound stream 4.520 amp interfere with FM reception at all on the stock H/K unit. Seen a thread about this, seems like it was a one incident thing? The stock FM is horrible already when compared to the aux. input.

* I am not sure I can live with the mm651's looks in the rear pods. Will the Harley 6.5" grills cover these? Or will just some generic 6.5" grills cover them?

* Would an mm521 fit under the stock grills in the rear pods and would they be worth the change from stock?

*Thought about a 2 channel amp and 6.5's in the frt and leave the rears alone, but seems like a waste when theres the 4 channel amps out there and the ultra's have a spot for rear speaker upgrades, LOL.

Thanks in advance, Brian

  • I'm not 100% sure about the CB module/intercom question. Never had a need to use either so I never looked into how the system worked. For some reason though I thought the CB was part of the PTT system. Harleypingman would be a good person to ask about this. He knows these systems intimately.
  • that is a hit and miss question because i've read where it did, but I also have not heard anything else about it from others who are running this setup. I didn't have the problem on my stock unit and don't have it on my Sony headunit either.
  • Don't know yet about the grills. I'm going to pick up a pair and try it out. $80 lesson if they don't so I'll take one for the team. :-)
  • Unsure about the mm521 and the stock grills.
  • I would definately upgrade the rear speakers too. You'll hear a lot of crap here about how they're useless but in reality they provide an excellent fill sound when amplified at riding speeds that you can hear without question.
  • Yes, put polyfil in the rear pods also.
