Default RF PBR 300x2 on Ultra

Been following the Class D amp and FM frequency issue on the other thread with great interest, as I was really wanting that SS 4.520 amp with Polks for my 2013 Ultra. Unfortunately, I really want to keep my FM as I use it a lot, so considering a new configuration. I only use my iPod interface on trips when out of FM range.

I have also seen UltraNutz's comments on the PBR 300x4 with the potential for heat issues, which was my next choice, but being on a budget, don't want to play games with hoping I get a good one.

For the most part, I am pretty happy stock, but wanting to eliminate some of the distortion I get at higher volumes at Interstate speeds. Saw a thread earlier on someone doing their setups in steps, but can't seem to find it. My hope is that I could go with a PBR 300x2 with Polk mm651's in the fairing and leave my rears stock for now. Later when I have the wife's blessing, I would do the same configuration in the rear and have the two amps each running a front and rear set.

Can you tell me if this is a viable option for the equipment and stages, or will I have issues somewhere? The other option is to install the mm651's only running off of the stock HU for now and upgrade the amps later. Will just the speaker upgrade work with a stock head unit without amp? I don't plan on changing out head units as I want the functionality of the intercom and CB.

Thoughts? Suggestions?

I feel the better option would be replacing both pair of speakers first with the MM651 speakers. DO NOT purchase the MM651-UM, just the regular MM651. Then from there you can add an amp to the front and then later on add one to the rear. The good thing with the small footprint of this amp is you can fit 2 of them side by side on top of the stock radio without issue.

Thank you. I wasn't positive if I could just do speakers without the amp, so appreciate that clarification. Sounds like good advice and will give me the option to upgrade in stages.

I think I can speak for most that your knowledge and opinion is very helpful here. Thank you for being such a great resource.

Mike
