I want to add an amp to my factory stereo on my 2015 Ultra. I have heard the stereo has to be flashed and I've heard it doesn't. Can someone please clear this up for me?
I think it needs to flashed for the factory amp or 4 speakers. Not for an after market 2 Channel amp on the speaker outs. But the guys in the audio section are the folks to ask.
The flash you have is fine. They don't flash for your wanted upgrade any longer, anyway.
What you will need is a Line Leveler to flatten out the eq signal from the radio and before the amp. Biketronics has the BT 355.. You will also need new speakers, the stock ones won't survive the amp.

If you talk to the folks at Soundz, a highly regarded mc audio company, they advise against a line leveler. They recommend flashing to balance the euqalization.
Granted, Soundz is promoting their products and services, but they are widely respected for their work.
i added an amp to my 16 RGU and had to have it flashed... as it was explained to me, it disables the head unit's amp and tells it to use the new amp, so there's no bi-amping going on. I just went with the one amp in the faring. the flash also changed the graphics for the fader. I have the factory Boom 6.5.

Audio installers like Soundz and Bagger Audio Lab have the equipment to flash the HU correctly. Not every shop will have that ability which is why the BT Line Leveler is the most viable option for the DIY'er. Even with the flash, it's not enough to tune the system correctly on its own.
OP come over to the Audio section with your questions.
