Gosh, find your joy where ever it works for you. My joy comes from being obedient to my higher power here and now.

HD tech services can provide part numbers for every component in that expensive harness and make a repair easy w/o replacing the entire harness.

By the way, I'm not surprised that your dealer or HD suggested an $1100 repair instead of a $100 fix. Cruise control, audio, and audio harnesses fail and HD won't replace the entire harness when a simple cionnector or wire repair will suffice.

As I've posted here previously, and a relatively long time participant/contributor, I have never read of a similar problem; I have read of folks using HD headsets having problems with the connector; which is why I'm sympathetic to J&M' s position.

Harleypingman: I totally agree, everybody finds Joy in different ways, each to their own. As to HD tech being able to provide components for individual parts, again true for most items. However not true for the rear connector. It is sold only as a one piece item, the full one piece harness. There is no listing that HD has for any component part for the rear connection. Your previous suggestion is most likely what we will wind up doing, that's splicing a plug connector into the wiring harness. Don't get me wrong, I am not unsympathetic to JM Corp's position, only that in this case the evidence is pretty conclusive that the two lower cords sent to me were sent with larger Pins than OEM Pins. Wither this is an anomaly, a manufacturing err that slipped by quality control, only JM Corp. knows for sure. Every Company I've contacted that carries JM Cords agrees that they have not had a reported problem as reported by me, however everyone of them also agrees that the two JM Cords sent to me have larger than OEM cords and that they have never heard of that ever happening before. Again Thank You for your suggestions.

hmm.. here's where I have to say WTF?

A year old bike with 4000 miles on it and because of age and mileage they won't repair but replace the part. I call TOTAL BS on this line of thinking and borderline extortion tactics from your dealership sir.

No offense here MW but I really think you need to find another dealership to take your bike to for warranty repairs and maintenance. Essentially what this dealership is doing IMO is telling YOU exactly what YOU want to hear regardless of whether it's the right thing to do or not. This in my eyes makes for a bad experience waiting to happen with a dealership that will lie to YOU about YOUR bike for 1 reason and 1 reason only, MAKE MONEY. If they'll do this over something as silly and simple as a headset plug that is easily replaced and as HPM pointed out can be done by any competent tech with a manual, then they will screw you the first chance they get.

So that leads me to the next question. What exactly does "willing to work with you" mean in reference to the dealership if J&M doesn't come across? Does that mean instead of $1100 they'll only charge you $1025? I'm telling you man.. RUN from this dealership. They see an opportunity to screw someone and they're going to do it whether it be you or someone else.

The Din plug that's used here is called a Euro-Din plug and can be bought at radio shack for less than $8. Or if you want one that already has wires on it to make for easy splicing, look to graingers, digikey, or someone like that.

I can tell you that me personally; I've dealt with John himself in the past as well as his employees and I've bought product from him for about 10 years as well. And it's been nothing short of stellar in all aspects. Sturgis this past year I saw John's booth at BH HD so I brought a buddy of mine who I knew was listening to RAP tunes on 5-1/4" J&M speakers in the fairing and toasted them, right up to John's booth. When John listened to it, determined the speakers were blown, pulled this guy's fairing apart, replaced both speakers, put his fairing back together, wiped down the front of his bike for fingerprints all done by JOHN himself that tells me 1 thing; customer service is important to him. John had NO CLUE where those speakers came from and all he was concerned with was they touted the J&M name so he took care of business. I can also tell you this much.. when you have a problem with something you purchased and call or email the manufacturer of said product you will MOST likely not get THE MAN on the phone or responding to your emails.

So in the end, again I advise you to find yourself another dealer and stop peddling this crap here. I think everyone (without going back and re-reading this thread completely) who has responded has pretty much told you the same thing just not in as many words..

Hi UltraNutz; thank You for your suggestions and input. However you might have missed the main point. My Bike is LESS than a year old and UNDER four thousands miles, still almost a NEW RIDE. If this was a Harley Davidson Warranty issue they would replace the Harness, not attempt a Patch Fix. BUT because the problem was caused by a after market Lower Cord, it is NOT a Harley Davidson Warranty issue, nor a problem caused by the Dealership, but should be that of the supplier of the after market Lower Cord i.e.--JM Corp...BUT because JM Corp is basically refusing to address the issue it is MY problem..SOOO... yes I will probably wind up having to splice a End Connection on the Harness. As to the Dealership, they have been amazing. They have went to bat with Harley as well as trying to address the issue with the JM President. I would have no problem highly recommending them to anyone who wants a HONEST, RESPONSIVE AND TRUSTWORTHY dealer. I have owned a lot a Bikes over the past FIFTY + years, yes I am that old, and have come to value HONESTY AND INTEGRITY in all my dealings. As to the Values and Character of the JM President, that I cannot address. I will say his comments to me appears somewhat condescending, as noted by his Emails and his replies on this Forum. However I am pleased that your interactions have been favorable. As for mine, not so much...and yes like you, I have purchased items from JM Corp in the past..In addition...both the Dealership and I have sent Emails to the JM President, as well as sending Him the phone numbers for both of us at the beginning, in order to work through the problem, nether of us have received a call from Him. As to the Employees of JM Corp, they have been STELLAR, all those I have talked with have attempted to help, however it appears that the decision and solution lies with the JM President. The Followers of this thread will make up their own minds as to JM Corp., but as for me...no thank You.

you hit the nail on the head here sir... "The Followers of this thread will make up their own minds as to JM Corp"

Say what you have to say, people will read it, and be done with it.. no need to keep on just because J&M has an active presence here is simply MY POINT

As for a "patch fix" if you were closer I'd change the darn things for you and you nor HD would ever be the wiser. And then you could move onto another manufacturer for your headset cables.

So, you contacted other vendors of J&M lower cords and have no reports of a problem like you. If you use the search function see if you can find anyone with the same problem. Then check for threads with headsets from HD with connector problems.

Did it occur to you that HD is blaming J&M for a manufacturing problem with their connector? Have you spec'd HD' s connector on your bike with others?

I'm not a fan of J&M products generally. But if you are the only guy with the problem, I'm inclined to think the problem is with you.

As an afterthought, I don't know how a person as articulate as you are could say his bike is a Street Glide Ultra Limited when HD never made such a model and it took you a couple of posts to fix your error.

Hi Harleypingman; thanks again for your suggestions. The Retired Service Manager at the HD Dealership remembers Harley back in the day, sending out lower cords with oversize pins. He remembers they were sent back under Warranty and the size corrected. As to the spec on the connectors on my Bike, yes we did. Both the lower cords and the connectors were compared to a number of both 2012 & 2013 Bikes, all of them were OEM size, the Y connector on mine has been sprung wider than OEM size. The only variable in this whole situation is the over size Pins on the JM Cords. Thank you for your kind words "person as articulate as you" , however everybody makes mistakes, including me. In my defense, this is my first Harley and I just called it a Street Glide because of the Bat fairing, not knowing any better. Mea Cullpa

Hi Noygrownup; I know, nobody I have talked with have had a similar problem, only me. As noted in past post, the only thing different in my situation is the size of the Lower Cord Pins that I received from JM Corp. Go Figure ....

You came on the Forum, presented you case and we have ruled.
You don't have a leg to stand on.

J&M has literally sold tens of thousands of cords with this exact same connector and if there were a recurring problem, it would be all over the Internet , which it isn't.

Take your bike to another dealer and tell them that the intercom won't work properly. Let them use their "test" headset and when it doesn't work, they'll fix it and Harley will pay the bill. Who's to say that Harley hasn't changed Vendors (China) and the new connectors aren't problematic?

I'm a leery of your business & motorcycle savvy. For someone who spent $25K or more on a motorcycle and to not know if its a Street glide or an Ultra Classic or a Street glide Ultra (whatever that means) or an Ultra Classic Limited, it sounds like you may have been taken to the cleaners by Your Dealer. I'm sure they will continue to cater to you as long as you're willing to cough up the dough.
