OK I took ulta's advise and got a PAC SNI35 rca to speaker wire converter and PolyPlanar Model:IC-3.5PM rca to mini plug adapter to run ear buds off the front speaker wires on my kenwood deck. Hooked it up today and there isn't much volume with the converter turned all the way up? Its turned up into the kenwood's distortion to get good volume??? I'm afraid to just hook both speaker grounds together and go straight into the mini plug for fear of shorting the kenwood amp??? Anybody got a good solution???? Help!! I would really like to try some noise cancelling earbuds for those long highway rides.
ok at least we know it will work cleanly just not a lot of volume correct? you could now add a line driver in the mix Oldhippie.
On a high powered radio, you don't want to connect your ground wires together, you WILL toast your radio outputs.

Thanks man!!! OK ordered the line driver... Got to bring speaker lines down to preamp then back up for headphones??? I do have unused preamp outs on my JL amp. Would it be better to just use those with the line driver instead of the speaker wires? I hooked them to the earbuds and got almost no volume?? Man this shouldn't be so hard!!!! Does no one hook headphones to their stuff????

well in your particular case, instead of it being up then down, it's more about seperating the channels independently then amplifying that signal.
Thanks! Its kool. I get it.
I did email Kenwood. Their useless reply; Thank you for contacting Kenwood USA Corporation. We value you as a Kenwood customer and appreciate the opportunity to be of assistance. I understand you are inquiring about the KDC-HD548U. The unit does not support a 3.5 headphone connections. Unfortunately you cannot use ear buds with this unit. Please feel free to contact us again with any additional questions.
Thanks a bunch guys...
