Speaker Shootout?
Trying to make an educated speaker decision between:
1. Polk MM651
2. Polk Audio AA2652-A MM651UM 6.5-Inch Coax Ultra Marine Speaker
3. NEW - Biketronics BT7P1 7.1" Specs: 2 way, 20mm tweeter, 180mm woofer. 4 ohm. 92.6 dB/SPL efficiency at 1 watt. Freq range-45-22kHz. 100 Watts RMS, 200 Watts peak. Integrated crossover. Mounting depth (including adapters) 4.5"
Obvious price differences:
1. $124.89
2. $135.12
3. $299.95 & fairing adapters included
What is the difference in the Polks and do the BT's sound...that much better.
Hopefully experts like UltraNutZ, Glacierpearl & StreetGlideWalt will add to the discussion.

I spent a lot of money making the wrong decision, and went with J&M. Once I found this forum I learned that there are much better choices out there. For me the Polk MM651 are a great choice. I can only compare them to J&M though. Just read the threads before you make a choice.
I have tried, bike tronics Titan (hertz), J&M and Polk MM651. I currently have the hertz in the front and Polks in the rear pods. Speakers are like comparing Ford, Chevy, Dodge and Toyota, it's an objective subject. A far as the new Titan's 7.1, I would guess its a good product as all of Biketronics products are backed with a lifetime warranty.

I started out with BT 6.5" Titan II's in my batwing, powered by a 90 watt/channel Alpine KTP. Sounded fantastic, even at 75 mph.
"Upgraded" my system with Soundstream PN4.520D, Polk MM651s in batwing and MM651s in rear pods (I have an Ultra). I can't hear the Polks in the fairing nearly as well as the BT Titan II's. The rear speakers are supposed to provide significant "fill-in" sound, but I honestly can't tell much difference. I will admit that my hearing is impaired and it takes a LOT of "clear" volume for me to hear things well. This being said, I don't know if it is the Polks or the Soundstream that are "lacking", as compared to my original BT Titan/Alpine combo or if my EARS just like the Biketronics better.
I'm now going to install an amp & speakers in my Street Glide. The amp will be the Soundstream PN4.320D (bridged to achieve 160 watts/channel at 4 ohms) and Biketronics Titan 7.1's. Go to the Biketronics website and they are on sale for $249.00 ($50.00 OFF). I'm hoping my ears like this set-up.
As you stated in your original post, the Polks require a set of $40.00 fairing adapters. They are included with the Biketronics and are of excellent quality.

if you are not going to use a real high-powered amp like the ROKKER series ((125w RMS per channel)) these are probably the most efficient speaker available for the Harley application ,,,,,, http://www.jmcorp.com/ProductDetail....D=HCSK-7252GTM ,,,,,
Key difference with the MM651 and 651UM is fixed grills that you cannot remove from the speaker so do NOT use the UM speakers.
Key difference between both of the Polks and the BT speaker is the impedance, Polks are 2 ohm vs the BT being 4 ohm.. This is a significant factor in determining which amp you're wanting to go with.
The Polks and the BT 7.1 are both very efficient speakers but are certainly intended for 2 different applications. So either speaker will be a great speaker, just depends on the amp as stated above.
