Default Think I got the wrong speakers

I just bought all the stuff I need to do a full upgrade on an 02 Ultra. I bought Polk DB651 for both front and rear. I read that these would drop in to the rear pods with no adapters but they are too large and too tall. Seems the hole is 5.25, not 6.25. 02 Must be different and not actually drop in? Seems I should have bought the 521 which is 5.25?

To my knowledge the stock speaker sizes are the same cutout up to current models. Are you sure they're stock pods? I think the Hogtune pods, the cutouts are a little bit smaller and require "reaming out" the hole.

Not sure I understand what too tall means though

Not the mounting hole - the hole for the entire speaker. The height issue also comes from the fact that the speaker itself does not fit flush , and the tweeter sticks way out. Stock speaker covers to not come close to fitting flush.

Where are all the old threads? Shouldn't there be multiple pages?

not sure what old threads you're referring to.

can you post pics of what you're talking about because as ignorant as I am, I'm not wrapping my head around this issue.

Suggestion: Ask the moderator to re-title your thread to accurately describe your problem.

I know a couple of guys who installed the same speakers in stock HD pods w/o issues. Of course the OEM grills won't fit a larger speaker.

Good luck with your project.

Stock covers will not work. You use the polk grills. They do not sit in the recess they sit on top.

Good input on the covers - maybe that is the problem. I ASSumed the stock covers would work. If this is the issue I can spray them black. Probably the same if using the 5.25. Here are some pics of the issue:

Not sure what year they changed sizes to 5 1/4, but my 1997 only came with 4" speakers and the pods are shallower than the current models also.

On the Audio home page, scroll down to the bottom of the page, where it says "Display Options". From the drop-down menu labeled "From The" - choose "Beginning". Then click "Show Threads".
Don't worry, happens to all of us. Or at least ME.

Yea, me too......LOL....I remember when I found that...... Like where the heck did all the posts go!!

Here's a pic, shows how the polks are surface mounted and the smaller size of the trim rings. These are polk DXI's. I don't believe even the 5.25's would fit behind the stock grill due to tweeter height.
