Default Need audio help with '03EGC.

Wanting to improve on my stereo, I first installed some J&M replacement 140 watt speakers(which are no longer available), and recently added a RF PBR300X2 amp. Still not getting the results I wanted. I assumed my system was 4ohm, but after checking a little closer i see that it is 8ohm. No problem with the speakers, they are 8ohm, but not sure about the amp. I don't see any ratings for 8ohm on it. Tell me what I need to do to get good sound out of this thing. I'm not very audio savy.

Thanx Rick

PS I'm still using the stock head unit.

Your problem is you are driving 8 ohm speakers with a 2 ohm amp--as a result your amp cannot supply sufficient power due to the high resistance of your speakers.

Get some decent 2 ohm speakers and you will see a big improvement.

Would you stay with the 5 1/4" or go to the 6 1/2, and what speaker would you suggest to get most bang for your buck?

As for speaker recommendations, PM UltraNutZ--he's the pro.

Carl is right. When you add an amp to a system, everything about stock goes out the window and you are now matching speakers to the amp instead of matching them to the stock head unit. The 8 ohm speakers were a requirement for your stock head unit because that's all it was capable of handling was an 8 ohm speaker. The amp you've installed however is designed for 2 or 4 ohm speakers tops with 2 ohm being the "matched" speaker. Infinity and Polk Audio have good 2 ohm speakers with my preference being the Polk Audio MM651.

It's good to hear you say that, because I just ordered a set of mm651's yesterday, and a set of Dragonfly's adapters. With all the chatter on the board about this combo, I just went ahead and ordered them. Thank you for the response and I'll post later how it worked out.

I want to thank both Harleypingman and Ultranutz for your input on my stereo situation. Just got done installing the MM651's, and with the Dragonfly adapters and the RF PBR300x2, it's exactly what I was looking for.
Thanx again Rick
