So I was out riding this past Saturday and I lost one of my 651's in the faring. Went home, tore the fairing off and and switched the bad one with one of the 651's in the rear pods. Put the fairing back on and went out again (with 3 working speakers). While riding the one I just switched to the front fairing went! Dang it!!! Now I'm pissed. Man I give up. I so tired of my scoot being down for speaker problems. I call Sonic Electronix immediately and explain the situation. They tell send the bad ones of all of them. We'll send you new ones. And they even covered the shipping. Guy was really helpful. So I pull them all out. They are all from the AA265114XXX batch. Two are AA265114378, the other two are AA265114381. One of each of the pairs went. So I'm sending them all back to get replaced. The rep I talked to at Sonic stated that he was adding notes onto the order that they are not to replace my speakers out of the same batch. We'll see if that works when I get them in the mail.
After a long discussion with Ultra I've decided to spend the extra money on the Biketronics 7.1 inch Titans (made by H.A.T.) Placed my order yesterday via phone and they will be here via the brown truck Thursday. I'll let y'all know how I like them.
Sad thing is I really do love those Polks. They are fantastic sounding speakers. I would just as happily keep them if I could get a set that wouldn't fail on me. I really hope the next 2 sets from Sonic are good ones. Cause there ain't **** that fits in those rear pods in the way of good speakers. I was told that by Ultra, and confirmed it myself by looking around the intranets. Really the best performing 6.5 is the MM651. Biketronics makes a replacement rear pod kit that retains the stock look but house their 7.1's, but I'm not looking to spend that kinda money on the rear pods. I WAS planning on adding speakers into the lowers over the winter, but I was going to use the MM651's. Now I'm not sure what in going to do....
Yea that really blows. What kind of warranty is on Polk's? My Focal had only 1yr mfg warranty but 3.5yrs so far so good. I think if they go out I'd go with BT 7.1's too. The lifetime warranty on BT's is hard beat. One members running similar speakers to mine gave them good review so let us know what you think.
I was having alot of problems with the polks so I went to best buy. I picked up a set of infinity primus PR6502is. They have been holding up for 2 months now and I been thru tons of rain. When I bought them I bought the 2 year extended warranty. If you want to know what system I am running I posted my girlfriend says its to loud. These are in my tour pak pods.

OldMXR,
Do you happen to have a pic of what they look like in the pods? I'm curious.
No I don't but will try and get one tomorrow. I bought a set of rockford fosgate speaker grills off of ebay and put on them. Look better than the stock speaker grills. The stock speaker grills were silver and wanted them black.
I feel your pain !! I lost one of my fairing speakers after only a month. Bike has been down now for 2 weeks and we have been enjoying the nicest weather I can remember in years. I've sent to speaker to Polk direct and they should have recieved it a week ago. Called them yesterday searching for an update and they claimed to not even have me in their system ?? so he didn't know if they've even recieved it yet but told me to contact them back 2moro. Their tech informed me that the AA26511#'s are just their model number not a lot number so a bad batch would never be indicated by these #'s. I ordered another pair this morning cause I figure they will be here quicker than Polk can get mine back to me if at all. From the sounds of all the failures at least this way I'll have an extra lying around for a quick turnaround. Once I get it back in I think I'll detune the amp a little just for safe jammin. There was no way I could even hit half volume before anyhow. 4 bars was about max I would push it, occasional 5. Anything above that and distortion showed up. I've had polk products in past and always was pleased with their quality. Still have 2 sets of LSI 9's in my shop and they absolutely rock for their size, but the MM651's sure seem to have their issues. I am curious though if all the failures are with amped speakers ? I hate to switch brands cause I feel that polk is a reputable enough company that they actually care about their reputation. Hope they man up soon and resolve this before they damage their credability.
they're crapping out from the tweeter stalks coming apart. I can only relate it to (from seeing them in my hands and what's been posted here) that the glue in these things just isn't worth a crap...
