apparently I don't as well. :-) Thanks bissjim for the indepth explanation.. When I bought this last bike, I swore nothing but HD parts. Put my Garmin Zumo 665 in my truck, bought a roadtech, bought the nim, bought the boom audio amp and speakers, bought the XM module, bought the iPod module.. All that $ out the window cause it still really sucked and got rid of it all.. There's a lot to be said for bluetooth functionality...

Okay, I'm new to this. I have a 2013 Ultra with the HH Zumo 665. It was installed by the dealer. They left out the aux wire. I took it back (130 miles), had them install it. Now it works except the volume is about 1/2 of the other bands. Any ideas?

There is a separate volume control for the GPS if your using it with a NIM. You can actively adjust it while the unit is giving you prompts, or you can dig for it in the radio menu.

I have the same set up. But I didn't use the interface module, and only used the auxiliary port. On my 09 FLHTCU I used the interface module, and found it would hang between functions(GPS directions & music). So I figured why waste the money on the module. Also I have no luck with XM since I don't get good reception in the hills and valleys I ride.

There are 3 volume controls on the GPS,

Goto Menu
Volume
Master Volume
Mixer you will see 3 listings, make them all 100%
Master
Navigation
Media

When the GPS is giving you turn prompts and you see on the radio display"Phone/Nav" then use the volume control on the left handlebar to adjust the volume. Now this only works if your radio is not, repeat NOT in the"AUX" mode. The radio must be in any other mode but the"AUX" mode for this to work.

The reason for this is because of the NIM. The NIM uses a separate input on the back of the radio. As you all know the volume of each input on the radio (FM, CD, CB, etc) can be adjusted separately. Once adjusted the radio remembers that setting for that function.

Now to be able to hear Music, XM, Traffic & Weather Alerts from the GPS your radio must be in the "AUX" mode. If the radio is in the"AUX" mode then the NIM is redundant as all audio outputs from the GPS including turn prompts will be heard via the "AUX" input. When ther adio is in the "AUX" mode then use the volume control on the handlebar again to set the volume level for the AUX mode.

You will note that the volume for turn prompts, Music, XM, Phone calls via the GPS will all very even though you have set them to 100%. Not a problem whenusing the "AUX" mode just use the volume control on the handlebar to adjust.

excellent info Jim, thank you...

Most people are unaware (despite your great article previously) about what exactly the NIM does and doesn't do.
