I hate to burst your bubble, but 4000 series isn't excluded. Two sets of mine that failed were 4378 & 4381

I'm with Monty. Both sets of mine that are now toast were 43XX.

Biggest thing is turn the gain down on your amp and make sure you don't over drive them. As it's been explained to me, one of the issues with the Polk's matched up with the SS 520 is that they are being overdriven. At 70 MPH you can't hear all the distortion from the speakers. So they are being overdriven and are getting blown.

And regardless, I got over 6,000 miles use out of mine with them cranked up pretty good before blowing them.

Like Ultra said, turn down the gains a bit. Consensus has shown that around 11 o'clock on the SS 520 amps seem to be about where most are set. I and many others lost speakers at that level. I have since detuned to 10 o'clock after replacing. Not all music is recorded at the same levels. Your music that you chose when you set up your amp is likely different than other hits in your collection. I've even hit distortion at the 10 o'clock settings on some cd's. I plan to detune a bit more cause the system is still plenty loud. System sounds really good at 55-60 mph but run up to 70 plus and some stuff gets a little muddy and need more volume which begins to distort out. My biggest complaint with the upgraded sound system would be the volume control level, 1 bar can barely hear, 2 bars and ok, 3 bars loud, 4 bars blasting, 5 almost never, and thats still not even half way. Just wish there was better control of the volume level, needs to be levels between bars.

I've been running the MM651/RF combo for quite a while now with amp set to HP with no problem. Just use common sense with volume and never set the AVC past two bars if using the HK head unit.

OK. 651's installed! Batting installed. My fairing (Road Glide) did not like the extra thickness of everything. But, it is on. Hopefully, my fairing screws will hold up. They've been abused (by the PO) and there are definite signs that it has been taken off a lot. The speakers sound incredible. I did not want to mess with installing the RF PBR300X2 amp, so I left the Kicker in. At 100 watts, I set the gain to about 25% (maybe 8 o'clock on the dial). High pass is set and the JVC head unit I'm using has 8 different EQ settings. The Dynamic and Bass Boost sound great, but will probably set it to Vocal for long stretches of tarmac, since most of the bass will be lost in the sound of my Rhineharts. Thanks guys, and wish me luck! I just need this set-up to endure the 3500 mile, 2-week trip to the 110th! I hit the road Saturday. Can't wait!!!!

Not sure... speakers, batting, crossovers, amp, head unit adapter, 2 bricks of coke, 2 pillows of weed, & a guy named "Jesus" I'm to deliver outside of Milwaukee. Hmmm... I'm not too sure, it seems like the top of my dash is pushed up a bit. The amp appears to fit without touching. I really had to push the fairing together with the dash to get the screws to line up. Had the headlight bezel off, and I know the fairing was sitting on the hooks right. I might tear it all down again before the weekend just to make sure I didn't catch a wiring loom or something...

you menion earlier that the PO made it obvious he's taken the fairing off a few times.. Makes me wonder (especially since amp isn't touching) if the inner is actually on correctly. Might be slightly misaligned therefore throwing everything else off.
