Ok, who recommends which lids for speakers and why? I will no doubt need some lids that I can get a good waterproof cover for as well as I ride in the rain a fair bit as well, I assume that the speaker lids are not waterproof in general? Is it worth building a baffle box on the base of the lid to hold wadding as well and protect the back of the speaker from stuff in the saddlebag?
Cycles Sounds lids. If you don't get waterproof speakers, and I DID NOT, you can keep some bra's in your bags next to your rain gear like I do. The Cycle Sounds lids come with a mess fabric that you place between the speaker and the speaker grill though. I rode 4 months ago from Dothan, AL to Panama City Beach, FL in a torrential downpour (about 2 hrs) before I bought the HD Lid Bras and it didn't effect my speakers at all. After that experience though, just to be safe, I bought the bras. Next time I get caught in the rain, I'll just pull over and throw the bras on.
DO NOT get these magnets! They blew off at 45mph the first time I used them.

Reach out to ultranutz on this topic. I know for a fact he had the cycle sounds lids and was not impressed. They leaked, and he subsequently sold them and went with the HD CVO lids haven't leaked a drop. However Hog Tunes just came out with there own lids which are, by all accounts fantastic. They don't leak, have a built in water channel to funnel any water that gets through the grill away from the speakers and they don't require the use of a speaker adapter at all, thus giving them stellar that waterproofing, and you can mount ANY 6X9 speaker to their lids. Ill be buying a set of the hogtunes lids in the near future myself.

Im mobile at the moment so not much to contribute except:
1. Cycle Sounds lids suck. I don't care what speakers you put in them they will not seal properly.
2. CVO lids allow the use of one of the best 6x9s I've heard to date, the Biketronic BT479 kit. Not a drop of water inside my bags since installed.
3. I don't have any "hands on" with the new Hogtunes lids but will say that if they were available when I did the CVO lids I would have gone that route. Pez put a lot of thought into that design
Can't see doing it personally, as I actually need the space I have in my bags. Maybe someday I can have both.

Joe, I was along the same thought process and it was my biggest concern. When I travel somewhere I get to pack my stuff in the 3 windshield bags and the wife gets the saddlebags, tourpak, and sometimes a bag on the tourpak rack. Needless to say my saddlebags are full most of the time and I lost little to no room whatsoever and I have the BT479 6x9 kit in there which is a bit deeper than most.
Lets face it.. not many people will do what I did.. Bought the BT kit, then replaced the BT/HAT speakers with the Pioneers. Both great speakers but the Pioneer's will produce better low end bass.
