just curious why you're swapping out a 6.5" speaker for a 5.25" speaker?
Good question. The answer is two-fold. One, I was not aware the original speaker was 6.5" when I bought the replacements and, Two, I'm betting on the idea that Kicker-brand speakers are of much higher quality than the Harley OEM speakers anyway.
According to the pictorial that yok posted, the original Harley speakers are in fact 5.25" so I may be on the right track.
IMO, stop where you are.. bring or send those back and get you a set of Kicker CS67 speakers to drop in there. The hole is a 5.25" hole but it's a 6.5" speaker. You're not going to get any resemblance of bass out of a 5.25" speaker.

hmmm...while your suggestion has some merit regarding the size of the driver...there are a couple issues to consider and that is the impedance of the CS67(4 ohms) and the fact they are not marine grade. Using a 4 ohm speaker with a system designed for 2 ohm speakers will cut the output in half. I suppose I could wire a 4 ohm resistor inline with each speaker to reduce the system load to 2 ohms..but then if the speakers should happen to get wet (and they will) the internals would surely rust eventually.
The speakers I bought have the correct impedance and are marine grade.
Im not too concerned with bass on an open motorcycle anyway. If I decide to, I will probably add a sub to one (or both) of the bags at a later time.
The goal at the moment is simply to reduce distortion at higher volume (ie cleaner sound) but this is all still new to me (the Harley part, not the audio part)
you can't put resistors inline to lower impedance. ok maybe CS67 were a bad choice to use for an example but the point was, I wouldn't waste my time with 5.25" speakers. Especially with the amount of work involved in getting those pods off. you will be replacing them..

Nice pictorial I like the way he ran the power lines under the console and did not have to remove the tank. Nutz I have the Polk MM651's will they bolt right up in those pods?

If you need to remove the tank then your gonna have to pull em back out.
