I recently picked up a used 2011 FLHTP. It had a radio system installed, not the best system so I'm upgrading. The radio unit didn't fit right, no mounting kit was used plus its a cheap unit.
I purchased a Sony BT4100 unit with a biketronics mounting kit and I also purchased a Rockford Fosgate PBR300x2 amp. The bike has Boom Audio speakers in it so I didn't upgrade those. Now I want to add some tweeters to the area where guages are found on most touring bikes (none on police bikes). What tweeters should I go with and do I need another amp for those or will they be ok with out and amp?
I have not installed anything yet.
Those Boom speakers will not last long with that amp. It puts out too much power for them to handle. I would upgrade those before anything else.
And, if I remember correctly, any 1" tweeter should fit. Maybe try the MM6501 speakers. Those will give you separate tweets and handle the power of your amp.

Get those BOOM speakers out before you hook up a decent amp. At this point you can sell them for a few bucks. If you cook them, they're just garbage. If you want really good speakers with the best bottom end you'll get on a bike, get the Biketronics Titan 7.1s. Otherwise the Polks recommended by Pioneer are top notch, and cover both bases for you (speakers and tweets).

Negative. You can run the tweeters off the head unit if you wish, or run them inline with the front speakers. They don't draw enough ohms to effect much.

100% agree. I think once you find a good set of speakers to replace the boom audio speakers with, you're likely to find that additional tweeters are a waste of $ and time.
I did a bike last night for another forum member that had the HT tweeter pod installed on it. Wound up tieing that pod to the rear speaker outputs of the head unit just to be able to fade them almost completely out once the rest of the equipment was installed.
Change your speakers first then go from there is my advice.
