Not knocking BT amps, my only problem with them is no gain controls. To me that's a MUST. But IMO, the SS amps still can't be beat for the cost and power..
Hmmmmm, now you made me wonder if I made the right decision... Everything paid up and on the way to my freight forwarder......
Putting cost aside, which one will drive the BT7P1 the loudest with no distortion, Soundstream vs. RF 300x2 vs. BT2180 ????
Biketronics website said that BT2180 is their latest most hitech amp with automatic gain control delivering max power automatically.....
Hey buddy,I'm using the stock HK head unit and just changed the speakers and added the amp.I got lot's of useful tips from the man(Ultra) and after mulling over many types of speakers and amps I finally decided on the RF PBR300x2 amps and the Biketroniics BT7P1.I followed all the settings and connections suggested. The verdict? The sound is much louder, clearer and you can hear some frequencies that wasn't there earlier with the stock setup even at 160kmh(that's 100mph).Yes,I ride hard. The only thing I was worried about is distortion but I leaned deep into my fairing trying to trace if the sound is distorted and to my fairly trained ear it sounded ok,no noticeable distortion.I had the AVC set at II bars. This is something you gotta watch out for if you have the feature in your system. You may have set the gain on the amp right or the bass and treble on the head unit right but when the AVC kicks in at speed,it maybe too much gain and that's when you may start getting distortion. In any case I think it's a question of finding the right balance. In my setup so far it sounds fine even at such speed but you can kiss the bass goodbye with all that wind and road noise. When you have your bike parked, that's when the setup sounds fairly impressive.I'm in the entertainment industry and my expectations could be a little high, nevertheless I'm happy with it so far.I would like to thank Ultra for giving me tiniest details and advice.
I live about 250kms from the capitol city of Kuala Lumpur. It's a beach town called Kuantan. It would be great to have you down here. There is a huge Harley community here, just PM me if and when you intend to buddy and let's see what we can come up with.A small bunch of were planning for a trip to Jakarta so maybe we could be in touch.
Thanks for the invitation buddy! It will be early 2014 usually when the groups are all going to Malaysia for a road trip, I will definitely shoot you a PM, even if I happen to go there for a vacation before the actual trip...
Hey! Shoot me a PM if you are going to Jakarta, then we can all have fun splitting lanes in the worst traffic in South East Asia!! I'll open the road for you guys with my loud siren and red/blue strobes!! LOL!!
that's certainly a first for me... regardless it's still a great amp so you made a good choice.
Doesn't exactly say automatic gain control...
"Our newest amp design! Featuring a smart DSP (digital) controlled power supply for massive output with any speaker load and at any volume! This system makes constant on-the-fly adjustments to ensure peak performance at all times, instantly reacting to ensure full power output no matter what."
I translated this statement as automatic gain control...
Hey, if you have better suggestion (louder not looking for cheaper) option, I am all ears, Harley accesories market is crazy lucrative here, if you have better option that will drive BT7P1 louder I can always get that amp instead and sell my BT2180 for a profit here as long as I haven't installed it....
Louder? Check out DA Performance and their Hertz/JL setups. Having been around one, I can't hear my own stereo at 70mph with the DA built bike riding next me (over the pipes and my stereo cranked).
