The Official 2014 audio upgrade thread
I purchased the Hawg Wired speakers because I heard how awesome they sounded on another buddy's 2013 Ultra Glide. I didn't pay attn to how much different his and my 2014 FLHXS really was so I bought the same speakers. So yesterday morning, I wake up and decide to embark on installing them and found out that while the speaker fits in the plastic speaker box, the box no longer fits into the faring properly.
I decide to email them about it to see if anyone else had this problem. While I was waiting on a reply, I found this forum and read most of what is in this topic here. I'll have to admit that this topic started to confuse me since I was unable to come up with a definite answer. I eventually got a reply from Hawg Wired. Here is their reply...
So here's my question. I already have the speakers and an amp (Rockford Fosgate PBR300X2). Do any of you think the grills would work? Also, If I do decide to purchase, do I need to get my stereo flashed? It's the SGS with the touchscreen doo hickey.
Yes you will need to get the radio flashed per Rockford Fosgate's instructions/tech bulletin on their website.
Also posted (#970) regarding flashing factory radio without a response but figured it out. There are many brands to pick from but choice depends on if staying two or four channel.
I decided to stay two channel only for simplicity and installed Arc Audio M.P.A.K 8 kit.
With most brands would recommend:
1. High end 2/4Ch Amps follow the Fosgate service notice and have Harley re-flash radio for Amp 1 - No, Amp 2 - No, with 8-speakers option. A must to correct/remove DSP from radio.
I know this seems odd for only a two channel system but it made a huge change to high volume clarity with my system.
2. Install 8-gauge mains vs 12-gauge included in most kits. (Personal choice)
3. Install Dynamat on backside of speaker pods. (stopped the vibration/chatter)
4. Set crossover to Full and adjust gains to 50-60%.

Dealer told me to shut off the speed volume and that was causing the amp to "overload" but when I do this the sound is not even half as loud.
Any ideas of what is causing this? How do I explain the "flash" I have read about and how do they disconnect the DSP?
I experienced the exact same problem as you when leaving dealership, with one difference. So far my has stayed at higher volume and speed dependent settings function properly,
I've started, stopped and let it set overnight and all us well still today.
I called dealer tech to let him know and he's scratching his head.
Update: Mine is doing just like yours, every power cycle or restart causes volume to revert to very low level.
Going to speed setting makes it come back on every time.
What's the fix?

Since I am doing this, and not wanting to take out a mortgage, and do it for a fair price...I suppose I need:
2 speaker pods
2 rear speakers
Upgrade ft. speakers
amp...or two?
flash
Whew...my questions (I read all 99 pages and I am still confused...so many ideas and options...needed extra strength Tylenol by the time I was done.
Are there aftermarket pods that fit and look good on 2014 bikes, as opposed to stock (which from what I gather have trouble fitting better speakers)
Which are good quality speakers...front and rear, that won't kill my wallet?
Two separate amps, or one four channel amp...any differences or advantages to either setup?
I don't believe I need a Magic box if I get the proper flash (I realize I need flashed anyway because I am going to four speakers.
All this for a cup holder (and some sugar after a ride LOL)
Fellas, I appreciate any input, and sorry for the long post

the pods from June's upholstery should fit the 14 tourpak but you might want to call them to make sure. http://www.junesupholstery.com/

It really would, but...gotta keep the little lady happy...besides, I can use some better sound.
I'll check out June's...thanks
Does that amp give enough power to drive the speakers at highway speed?
