Had a few questions regarding wiring speakers. For starters here is what I am working with. Head unit is a Clarion CMS1 2 Chanel 16w x 4 rms 2 Polk mm651 and 2 mm691. Just curious on the best way to wire these speakers. Also do you think an amp will be needed? Info for the components below.
You can't run those speakers directly off the head unit. The receiver is 4 ohm and the speakers are 2 ohm. You either need to change the speakers or get an amp. I would suggest an amp because the receiver isn't putting out nearly enough power for what you are trying to hook up.

What kind of amp/ wattage would you suggest? Can a 4 ohm unit power a 2 ohm amp? 2 or 4 channel?
Radio resistance doesn't matter to the amp. You would need a 4 channel 2 ohm stable amp with those speakers. The Soundstream 4.520 is a great little amp if you don't mind losing your FM reception.
Thanks for the input, why would you loose fm reception?
The power supply inside the amp creates interference in the FM band right where the radio stations are. If you value FM, I would choose a different amp.

Alright, So I checked my speaker boxes and they say compatable with 4ohm outputs- Does that mean there meant for 2 but will work on o4? So my question now is, since an amp is going to be necesarry what is better 2 or 4 ohms? Sorry for all the questions, first stero project i'm doing and its kinda new territory for me.

Polk MM651 (and maybe the mm691) speaker boxes are misprinted. These are 2.7 ohms speakers and will wind up taking your Clarion's internal amp out.
As stated above, you either need a 4 ohm speaker to use with the head unit or you'll need to add an amp to accommodate the 2.7 ohm speakers.
