Burning CDs
This question may need to be moved.. so, now I have the mm651's and the 2 p300x2's .. I put in a purchased CD and the sound is crisp, load, clear, and clean.. I am extremely happy! Later this week, I popped in a CD w/ a myriad of MP3's and the sound was much less quality than the audio CD... I used MP3GAIN to regulate the gains on all the MP3s, which did result in leveling the volume of all the songs (instead of constantly adjusting volume for each song)..but quality is much quieter.
I know that MP3 is a very lossy format, but trying to find music in FLAC format (legally) is not something I've been lucky with. I hate to purchase a myriad of CDs to pick out 1 or 2 songs, extract to a lossless format, and then create an audio CD of all my favorites, as I would most likely purchase 25 cd's to create one cd of favorites (assuming I could even get 25 songs onto a true audio CD).
Any suggestions? MP3 is easy to purchase via iTunes, Amazon, Walmart, etc, but not sure even getting a higher bitrate will help...

I've noticed that most mp3's are between 85 and 92 so i settled in to 89 and have had good results. If you are noticing that they all seem low, try bumping them up to 92. If you do not get any distortion and or cliping, go as high as you can. Ive ripped a lot of cd's where it was as high as 96 and the program indicated the files should be clipping. Honestly, I'd leave em at 89 and just adjust your volume. If you are like me, you prob have 80 or 90 songs on a disc all at the same level so you could go hours with out ever having to adjust the volume. mp3gain is cool as it does not re encode your files every time you change the level, it just changes the level setting within the file so you can play around and not lose quality. I always make two sets of files so i will always have my master setting of the original file and then mess around with the copies for burning or streaming.

I'm not convinced you need everything to be 320kbps. I've been ripping cd's for as long as I can remember. It's more about what encoder was used when it comes to quality. You are not complaining about quality here, but volume level correct? Bump up the gain on mp3gain or turn up your tuner volume. That's all it should take.
Good point, speedracerx0509... when I originally made a CD using a myriad of MP3's, I had not used MP3GAIN.. as expected, I was adjusting volume constantly.. I then used MP3GAIN and set to 89, but volume suffered.. i then tweeked all to the highest gain I could w/ only a couple clipping .. sounds better, though I have a few at only 128 that sound pretty poor. I will upgrade them..
One interesting thing that I'm seeing now.. I have 78 songs.. when I get up to around 64, "sometimes" the songs simply quit playing.. not just 65 to 78, but also 1 - 64 that I just played... my only fix that I have found is to eject and reinsert the CD...

Interesting! I stream all my music from my house to my iphone. I did burn a disc for my father n law with 80 some songs on it. I asked him to give it back to me on Saturday so I could make him another one with additional songs. I noticed his disc was scratched 3/4 around the diameter of the disc. I'm wondering if it's getting scratched inside the Head Unit while riding. He has not complained about freezing yet. Does your disc look scratched?
