Default 2013 FLHTK Stereo Question

Wanting to upgrade stock HK sound system with amp and new speakers front and rear. Is there any benefit going with a 4 ch amp if I can only control front and rear volume? I have no plans of lower fairing or saddle bag lid speakers. Thanks

Well depends......if you are going with speakers in the fairing and speakers in the rear pods then I would say yes you really need a 4ch amp. If you only plan on the fairing then no a 2ch amp is all you need. You could run 4 speakers on a 2 channel amp but advise against it. You cut the ohms by half each time you add another speaker to an output. Without the right correct speakers and amp, this would not be a good thing.

Let me add that in my case, I went with a 4 channel but have only upgraded the fairing speakers. I was being proactive, I will be upgrading the rear speakers at a later date and time.

Once you see how cheesy the factory Harley speakers are you'll be mad that you had to pay for them. Upgrading speakers and adding an amp is nothing short of an awesome improvement. You can hear the rears, although not as well as the fronts. Install a backrest and when your laid back with feet up on highway pegs cruising you will hear the rears better. It makes it all a more complete full sound. I done a soundstream 4 channel amp and 4 polk speakers, 1000% better. If I had it to do over again I would put a larger speaker in the front fairing as the larger speakers have a deeper tone which is what you tend to lose going down the road. The polks however drop right in the rear pods perfectly like they were made for it. Do it and don't look back you wont be disappointed.
