Default Speaker baffles or polyphil?

An audiophile I know recommended I put speaker baffles behind my new speakers. You know, those felt looking thingies that enclose the back of a speaker like a bowl. Said it would help bring out the bass. But I'm reading here that the in-the-know folks are using the polyphil. So are speaker baffles a good idea or a bad idea? Polyphil a better course of action? I hate taking the fairing on and off so I only want to do this once. Thanks.

baffles and polyfil do different things.

baffles will take the air being moved backwards and force it back out the front and will cause what's known as cancellation (loss of bass).

polyfil slows the movement of air and allows the speaker to perform at it's peak.

The only time I use baffles is when isolating speakers in the same enclosure from each other such as saddlebag lids and speakers facing inward in the saddlebags and then in those cases I will cut a hole in the back of the baffle to allow proper air movement.

So baffles in a RG fairing is a no-go then? Yeah, I can be a little dense sometimes especially about stuff I don't know much about.

man the only dense people are the ones that don't ask questions..

I personally would use, and always use polyfil. 3 thin layers in a 15x15" square wrapped around the speaker basket. On the roadies, you'll have to zip tie it in place to keep it put.

hmmm --- I lightly glued a layer of PF to the inside of the fairing, except near the headlight. Are you basically making basket of PF to cover the back of the speaker? How are you holding it in place? Should I remove what I've done and replace with your method?

Thanks
