Hogtunes lids with pioneer 6x9 TS's install challenge
Got lids in and already broke in the speakers.
Want to mock up - actually hear them - on the bike prior to sending them oof to the painter with slicer front fender and mid frame air deflectors.
lids come with a rubber "gasket" for the speakers.
Pioneers do NOT fit nicely without the HT rubbers, but with the robber it seems to me - during dryfit - there will be a "gap"... meaning air opening form outside of the bag to the inside...
Anyone out there with the same setup or suggestions???? I am aware of this combo not waterproof (Not needed here in Vegas LOL).
okay - looked closer and it seemed like I could take off the plastic ring from the pioneers. it has 2 tabs.
took1 off the speaker (was semi glued to it), now the rubber ring fits but the 4 corner "tabs" in the lid are in the way.
2 options:
lower the 4 corner tabs in the lid or cut the rim off the speakers around the 4 mounting holes on the speaker... think I am going with the speaker rim mod...
There are a TON of good custom audio shops in Vegas !! I had the shop on East Trop, about 2 miles down from the BLVD make my 6X9 spacers for the bags. I know that SS Audio on Spring Mountain is good too !!

Thx - but I am pretty darn handy myself if I may say so ... got all the tools you can imagine. I am going with the grinding off a bit of the lip of the metal on the speakers with an air tool and small round "bit" (NOT a real grinder) - 1/16" or so should do the job - just 2 inch around the mounting holes should do the job. structural strength of the speaker "frame" should not suffer from it. will post result with pictures once done
AAWAV: did you ever mount the speakers in the lids with the plastic Pioneer ring screwed to the lid top (not using the HT supplied rubber "gasket" or any other mods?
That's how I have mine right this minute and the speakers are making a racket (think too much bass in a hatchback sort of noise). I suspect it's because I'm not isolating the speaker from the lid since I don't have that rubber gasket that HT supplied on my install. I tried to line it up WITH that Pioneer ring you removed still in place, and the HT screws seemed too short, but the Pioneer supplied screws cracked the "dome" on the top side of the lid (too long by a little bit).
Ugh...I wish I'd seen this post BEFORE I installed the speakers!! I'm going to attempt to use your "fix" to get them to install with that rubber ring- hopefully that will eliminate the rattle. I have the HD Fitted Saddlebag Liner kit in my CVO style bags so it's not just an empty ABS shell under the speakers. That, and there is nothing IN the bags currently, so I can't explain the rattle....

I did a dry run with the pioneer rings but instantly noticed they would not fit. Plus I do not like plastic on plastic. So did the "grinding" solution. another option is to "cut" out the 4 angled lips on the HT lids. I opt for the speaker mod as you might never know what will happen in the future (other speakers or sell or ... ). I used a air "dremmel" btw, not a real grinder .
Take your time... Lids, KW slicer fender and midframe air-shields are mow at the painter... hopefully back by the end of next week.
