So, I am feeling a bit humbled by this.. I have installed a new kenwood head unit, pbr300 amp, mm651 speakers and the only thing that I am having a hard time with is this handlebar controller.
I found a white and pink wire to cut and take to ground, so I did that. The controller runs thru its autodetect and gives me a solid light, but will not work. So, now I am wondering if I may have cut and grounded the wrong wire? I will enclose a picture, and if anyone can help... I would appreciate it

thanks!!
you grounded before the connector on the correct side. you can either cut before or after the connector, so no issue. seems like grounded the handlebar side, so you are good from that perspective
Incorrect grounding IMO does not make the unit not work at all, just some buttons will not work.
I assume you connected the 3.5 female plug to your kenwood harness / wire (kenwood does not come with the build in 3.5mm plug) ... see little mike's comments. to me it feels (I cannot see your bike LOL) you did not connect the signal line correctly to the HU. also I assume you used the metra harness right, not the ASWC-1.
These pics show the harness and the pink/white wire. This is a bit confusing already and the mfg instructions say to attach the pink/white to the pink/white of the 23 pin harness (that doesn't exist)... Good Luck!

?????
instructions in the document I wrote are pretty clear IMHO. cut the pink/white wire coming from the left handlebar before or after the the connector (It does not matter). ground the pink/white wire on the handlebar side of the wire to for example the ground connector on the power plug/cigarette lighter....
tape off/heat shrink the other side of the pink/white wire. that's all.
toss the connector/wire harness that comes with the ASWC1 and use the Metra 99-9600 connector/harness.
it is all discussed before in this thread.

I was under the assumption that the 3.5 plug on the HU was the ticket... not the case. I honestly did not realize there was 3.5 female plug in the kit... it was buried under all the papers and parts. Connected that to the right connection (blue/yellow to brown from aswc) and everything worked perfectly!!
I want to say thanks to everyone on here... these forums rock!!

Need some input. Weather finally broke enough here in N Illinois to get the bikes out for a ride. Riding w/ my buddy who we just upgraded to a PBR300X2, Kappas, and a Kenwood HU using the Metra and ASCW-1 kits. Everything is working perfectly...except volume control. I know I saw a post like this recently but for the life of me can't find it. Volume control works fine in the on position and the Aux position when the bike is NOT running. With the bike running no control. We took the white/pink wire back to the cig lighter. Siiting in the garage getting ready to pop a beer and remove the cap...any suggestions on alt. ground locations that might resolve the problem? Thanks!
Think we got it! All the wires appeared to be in tact and connections were still solid but the cig lighter wasn't getting it done. Found a pair coming out of the harness near the headlights that his Boom fairing antenna were connected to. Now volume works on, aux, and running. He'll test it going home but seems to be corrected.
mike - sorry about late response. had to take care of pool drain and fill all weekend. good to hear you found the issue.... I do not have a problem with the ciggie connection FYI.
